Sleep after feeding

New FTM here. LO was born December 3 and I just got home from hospital. Just curious, my LO doesn't burp often after BF and I'm always afraid to sleep after putting him down afraid he'll spit up and choke. Is there a recommended time limit to wait and see if he burps in his sleep? And could he just not need burping? Just worried about choking and all...

Thanks!

  • My baby almost never burped the first months of his life. I would not worry about it. I have also been told that chocking due to spit-up is exceptionally rare.

  • Some babies just don't need burping or don't burp every time, as PPs have said. I usually try burping my boy for about 4 minutes, then keep him upright for 10. You will figure out something that works for you.

  • Kind of different question but, he's been falling asleep at feedings and wants to suck a lot instead of feed. Today he's been awake and eating both breast milk and formula off and on for six hours. I can't get him to sleep at all Normal?
