My Mystery...long post

It's been a long few days...

Sunday: Around noon, I started having pain in my right lower abdomen. Enough stabbing, burning pain to make me cry. Notified my OB physician who said to watch it through night. Well, it got worse so took a trip to ER. physician assistant tried to say maybe it was round ligament pain and I envisioned myself smacking him in the face. Blood work and urine fine, so I got sent home. Pain spread higher up during night.

Monday: Went in to my OB office. Midwife says , "well we can do an abdominal ultrasound, but your symptoms aren't typical of gallbladder or appendix issues". If you have appendicitis, an ultrasound isn't helpful for diagnosis. I start crying because I was in so much pain (doubled over at times). For some reason it hurt the worst on my right side only when I went to bathroom. No uti, no constipation. Midwife didn't mention doing ultrasound of baby, but only abdomen... I was also frustrated because she was pretty much asking me what I wanted to do. Yes, I am a nurse, but YOU ARE THE EXPERT. I don't know much about OB stuff... I have worked peds, surgical, ortho. My Dr came to talk to me and explained more of why could be wrong (placental abruption was one idea..kidney/gallstones...and other things).

Today: Abdominal ultrasound negative aka completely fine. Midwife calls to check on me and I tell her pain is still there. Right side, shooting to my back. Finally go for ultrasound of baby, everything is fine!! Placenta, baby, ovaries... Everything. No answer as to why I'm hurting....good news and frustrating news all at the same time. Stuck with pain that occurs at rest and with movement. This has to be one of the top five pains I have experienced. endometriosis is at the top of the list and pretty damn painful. So just Laying down switching sides everytime one goes numb. Hope this goes away or something. Dr told me to call his cell if I am nauseated, vomit, or develop any other new symptoms.

Sorry it's such a long post! I am tired and just wanted to vent. Sorry for spelling issues also if there are any.

Eta: my baby sucking it's thumb. Couldn't get a crotch shot, but at least I know he or she is still okay. Hope pic isn't huge. Uploading from phone. This is beautiful.

  • Did they check your gallbladder? Is the pain upper abdomen or lower? Right sided pain shooting to the back sounds exactly like my GB attacks when I was pregnant last time around. Might be worth looking into.
  • @Jillibean68‌ yes, upper and lower.Nothing was there. Were you having stones? Thank you for the suggestion :) the weird thing is it's mostly lower
  • It could be a form of round ligament pain. I would recommend trying a prenatal massage and/or a chiropractic treatment.
  • @hchellebelle‌ yeah.. No. No chiropractor or massage therapist can solve this.
  • That sounds horrible. I had a friend with terrible, debilitating mystery pain while she was pregnant and this post reminds me of her. The Dr assumed it was something bladder related brought on by the cerclage she'd had put in previous to the issue, but they really weren't sure and there was nothing anyone could do about it. It went away when the cerclage came out, and she had a healthy baby.

I hope you feel better soon, even if no one ever figures out why you were in pain in the first place. T&P.

  • @nurserachel22‌ . Yep , mine started in mid 2nd trimester and I had some nasty gallstones. I was able to get my GB removed after DS was born. The pain that shoots to your back is what made me think GB. I hope your docs can figure it out soon! Unexplained pain like that is horrible.
  • Sorry to hear - it sounds both very painful and very frustrating. I really hope you can figure out the cause very soon!

I get some pains in my sides when I go to the bathroom and I'm pretty sure they're caused by gas. One evening was very bad - i couldn't speak or move at times, and it took me a while to figure out it was my bowels. I never imagined gas pain could be so severe.  Since that episode, I carry Gas-X in my purse. I'm not at all saying that your pain is caused by gas, just mentioning it as a possibility.
  • @marijaa333‌ I have had this also, but it's not comparable pain. So strange!!! I pass gas.. A lot. And have no been constipated. If it was gas I could blow up my whole state by now :)
  • Hoping you feel better soon!! I'm sorry they can't figure out what it is-so frustrating!! Take care of yourself. And your baby is beautiful :)
  • I am so sorry you are going through this, I hope you feel better soon. That pic of your baby is perfect

  • So sorry you are in so much pain. I hope it goes away or you get answers soon! Adorable ultrasound picture!!
  • Glad your little one is okay, but I'm so sorry you have to deal with such terrible pain. Did they check your ovaries? Perhaps a cyst burst?

  • I am hope you start feeling better soon, glad the baby is doing well!!!
  • Hope everything goes well with you!

And that is a beautiful baby picture! I'm glad he/she is OK!
  • @samiamagirl‌ hi! Yes, my ovaries looked normal... But they did mention they are hard to see. This pain is different from pain I have felt from cysts, but there are so many different kinds! If one did burst though, the fluid is typically quickly reabsorbed, and pain would be resolving by now. This is how I found out about possible endometriosis I had. Because the pain and sickness stuck around.
  • @nurserachel22‌ - Ugh, that sucks. I had a cyst burst weeks ago and that's why I thought it could be that... I really hope they figure it out. Maybe it's something with your digestive system, which may be harder to diagnose. Don't give up on trying to figure out tho!

  • I never had stones in gallbladder - but it was non functioning. By the time things were figured out and I had it removed it was infected. Never showed up on ultrasound, but pain sounds similar. Do you notice it gets worse after meals?

Glad baby is ok- hope you can find some relief!

  • Another thing- do you have a family history of chrons? My sister has that and she gets miserable with it sometimes. Only her small bowel is effected.

  • I had similar pains last week. I never called my doc but it got so painful when I went to the bathroom that I stopped mid stream and couldn't start again. It hurt worse to pee or bm. Walking a lot made it hurt and lying down seed to help but not make it go away. It gradually decreased but for two days I was worried my appendix would rupture. By the time I decided to call the doc it started to lessen so I decided to wait it out. It took probably four days but I feel back to normal now. I am convinced it was either severe rlp or gas pains. Both of which didn't seem likely at the time but since it's taken care of itself I can't find any other likely causes. Best of luck. I hope you find relief soon!
  • @gherkins‌ this sounds identical to me! Thanks for your support
  • @a316b‌ no chrons, no pain after meals. Thanks for sharing with me!!
  • Im so sorry! I hope everything gets figured out and fixed. What a sweet pic too.
  • I'm really sorry that you are going through this. I hope you get well soon and find a solution. Your little one is beyond adorable. I'm glad he or she is okay.
  • I hate it when there is definitely something wrong with you and doctors can't even tell you what and show little interest in finding out.. At least you got to see your beautiful little baby ultrasounds are the best
  • Sorry you are in so much pain hopefully you can get some relief soon! Glad baby looks good!
  • Ugh. Sorry you're in so much pain. I hope you get relief very soon.

  • I'm sorry you are dealing with this!

Is there any way possible it's nerve pain? Like...maybe there is a pinched nerve and it's causing the extreme shooting pain? That happened to me with my first pregnancy and it was like a 9 out of 10 on pain level, and I have a high tolerance for pain.

Whatever it is-- I hope it goes away soon.
  • @lgsdesigner‌ It doesn't feel like nerve pain but idk what it is... This is day 4 :( thank you for your reply!!!
  • I am sorry you are in so much pain and they can't figure out what it is to help you.

    Baby is beautiful.
