TTC After a Loss

Finally a game plan

Some of you may remember that after my 2 mc I was pushing my GP to send me to an OBGYN. I finally met with him today and the appointment went a lot better than I had thought it may.
He spent over an hour with us off and on and listened to all my concerns. Our current game plan is to take progesterone  after ovulation. If I end up miscarrying again the next plan is to have him go in to look for a septum. He gave me those two options for now (blood work for clotting disorders was already done, not al results are back yet). We went with the progesterone because he likely would not be able to do the procedure to check for a septum until close to May. Then if something was discovered we would have to wait again to have it removed. He said since in 98% of the cases nothing is found to be wrong that progesterone made the most sense for now.

In other news, it worked out in my favour that this is the obgyn I was sent to. He also specializes in vaginal pain and in our consult it came up I do experience pain during sex. This has happened for many years, but it isn't always constant, and I always figured it was just the way things were. Well, he did a pelvic exam and it turns out I have localized provoked vulvar pain - vulvodynia. He also found a band (of muscle I think? I was a little confused) in the vagina which should not be there and also would explain pain. Currently we're putting treatment for that on hold, but in the future I will be seeing a pelvic therapist to help as well as other treatments. I was kinda like holy crap, this explains so much. So hopefully in the future sex will be a lot more fun for me
;)

It's always nice to have a plan going forward. Let me know if you have any questions about treatment for vulvodynia. I've done steroid injections, nerve blocks, and physical therapy. I think the therapy helped the most. Edit: clarity

  • Awesome that you have a plan and are getting answers!
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • Nice! Hope everything goes well from now on!

  • @Amybunny30 I was pretty impressed with his knowledge. We talked about folate and about using your LMP as an EDD and he told me that new guidelines are coming out to show extra folic acid isn't needing beyond a prenatal and that LMP will no longer be used as a marker for EDD, instead a dating ultrasound will be used since so many women don't ovulate on CD14. I think he just recently became an OBGYN in recent years, before that he was a chiropractor in Orangeville. He's creating quite the little practice for our little area. He has a surgeon on staff (the one who did my d&c) and hired on a pelvic physiotherapist as well. Now hopefully he can get our hospital to improve their facilities.
