Baby Names

Struggling

I am struggling to find a name I like and my husband agrees ongoing our son. So far he likes his own name (Kenneth) which isn't going to happen since I grew up in a house where not only was I named after my mother, but my brother was named after my father and it cause a lot of chaos as well as trouble that didn't need to happen. The other name is Miles, I don't mind Miles, but I am not head over heels in love with it either. I am partial the less common names so that in a few years when I am in a store and say his name I don't have other little boys turning around. I have some up with six or seven lists of names all that he has said he hates. I am not going to give and just name him after my husband.

My question is: is anyone else having a difficult time finding a name they love?

Re: Struggling

  • We are struggling biiiiig time too. We are team green so coming up with names for either sex seems impossible. I swear my husband just makes sounds and pretends they are names sometimes! I like the unique and less common ones as well. Share your short list with us! Maybe DH will come around.
  • I just went through this. I find that there really aren't any names that I am head over heels for. I like some more than others, but nothing jumps out at me the way I always think it should. For me, I find it's better to test drive it and see if I can see the potential than to try to base it off of a gut reaction. I just called this baby by a different name about every week to try to see what felt the best. Finally, we found one we both agreed was a really good choice. It isn't a name that either of us were IN LOVE with, but it feels like it really will be the perfect name for her. Just try to be patient and give it some time!

  • What about milo?
  • @DaisyBlinks‌ I like names like Maddox, Rory, Royce, Brogan, Brannan, Spencer, Vance, Kellen, Keegan, and Boden.
  • Brogan? I have never heard that name.. Sounds completely made up. Also Brannan? Eh have you been on nameberry? They have some decent lists. I can't think of many boy names myself so I'm not much help. I do like Leo, Silas, Ellington and Sawyer for the most part. Hopefully you fall in love with something soon.
  • @Mamamads‌ Brogan and Brannan are old welsh names.

@ugotstarbucked‌ unfortunately since this is the 10th baby in the family so a lot of great names like Brody, Teirnen, and Brendan are taken.

I have gone through two name books, and several websites with no luck. Hopefully something will come to me soon.
  • I like Kellan, Keegan, and Maddox.
  • I do too but my husband claims to hate them...
  • Rory, Spencer, and Keegan are nms, but fine.

What about Niles? Brady, Bennett, Arlo, Kieran, Cole, Matthias?

And to answer your question, yes. We struggled with DS's name until after he was born. If baby #2 turns out to be a boy, we're screwed.

I think that out of the names you gave him you have some good one (Rory, Spencer, Kellen). I like Miles, and even though it is a little popular for my taste, I think it is a solid name. I find it a little strange that your husband really wants to name a child after himself. You have veto on his choices too.

We struggled with our first son, because we had made all these rules to follow. We are a little more open with DS2, and we have the opposite problem, we have too many choices.

ETA: I like some of the other suggestions of Kieran, Killian. I would had Ronan, Rowan, Niall, Brian, Patrick, and Seamus.

  • Tell your husband that he can't veto a name until he suggests one of his own.  Put a list on the fridge.  He can only cross off a name if he adds one.  You can do the same until you guys have a small list of names.  It's not guaranteed to get you the world's greatest name, but it might help get some juices flowing. My H doesn't like a lot of names and shot down hundreds until we had a small list we both agreed on.  It was frustrating when I would suggest all these names and he would veto them without suggesting anything himself.
