NBR: Christmas menu?

I know we had one of these threads for Thanksgiving and the menus sounded yummy. I didn't see one for the winter holidays meals though.... anyone want to share what they traditionally make or are planning this year?

I usually make a standing rib roast but the sides really vary...

This year standing rib roast I wanna try roast w. horseradish and herb crust :

still up in air on sides.

Re: NBR: Christmas menu?

  • @Mewwwwws‌ That rib roast sounds amazing!

I've not given any thought to this yet. Normally we are with my side of the family but this year we decided it will be just DH, me & the twins at home, no guest & no traveling! I'm thinking something non traditional though! I will be keeping an eye on this thread for ideas!

We do a hot pot (Chinese fondue) christmas eve. Then on Christmas day we have steaks (prime rib)
  • Christmas dinner is a huge affair (50 people) every second year and a medium affair (20 people) the other years. We always do it potluck style, our menu is usually this:

Turkey (Gordon Ramsay recipe is best!)
Ham (spiral cut with a sweet glaze, although DH smoked a ham recently and it was amazing!)
    Mashed potatoes
    Scalloped potatoes
    Roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon
    Broccoli w/cheese sauce
    Carrots
    Turnips (ugh)
    Stuffing! Plain, traditional style
    Rolls & butter

We mixed it up once and someone brought sweet potato gnocchi.
  • I'm making hubby make his family's sauce and meatballs. I usually go all out but I'm not feeling it with 2 LO's this year.

  • Not sure what we are going to do. We normally go over to some friends but they don't start until around 8pm and that is C's bedtime. So, we are passing this year.

Probably some ham with sweet potatoes, corn casserole, something green, some rolls, and pie.

  • Since we celebrate Thanksgiving in October (Canadian Thanksgiving), we always do turkey for Christmas dinner.  We are hosting Christmas day (as usual) and are doing Turkey, Grand Marnier Cranberry sauce, Garlic Mashed potatoes, bacon roasted brussel sprouts, and homemade rolls.

For Christmas eve we are going to my mom's and she's going to do a prime rib roast, but I'm not sure what the sides will be yet.

We do ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, broccoli cheese casserole, sweet potato casserole, cinnamon apples, crescent rolls, and grasshopper pie for dessert.

Would love the broccoli cheese casserole recipe?

  • Christmas eve we are going to my moms and she will have prime rib, mashed potatoes, asparagus and probably strawberry cheesecake. Christmas day we are hosting for my dad and brother. I'll make ham, homemade cream corn, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, and croissants. Dessert is TBD.

  • So far I know that our menu will include:
Ham, chicken parm, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, fresh green beans, and corn. Something from Pinterest will be dessert, but I'm not sure exactly what yet. I'd like to make eggnog pie, but not everyone would eat that.

  • We have a huge Christmas Eve affair where we have crab soup, crab dip, taco dip, meatballs, veggie trays, ham, pasta salad and more! Sounds random typing it out, but it's tradition.

Thanks for the ideas ladies!  I'm going to have try out the Grand Mariner cranberry sauce @JJsMum (should be great w/ that orange flavor running through it), eggnog pie @CNJ4EVA,  sweet potato gnocchi @2goingon3.

@kaylajade8911 minted lamb sounds awesome too.

@MrsCunningham22, rice and peas in coconut milk as in Jamaican rice and peas in coconut milk? sounds good too

  • My sister is hosting this year and she said we're doing a potluck and the main is ham

now I have to decide what I want to bring... Will depend on how long I can get DH to independently watch LO

  • We are hosting Christmas Day so both sides of the family get to see DD. My mom usually makes prime rib. May copy that, it's pretty easy to prepare. On Christmas Eve we do a modified Italian 7 fishes dinner. I say modified bc some of the traditional ones are gross to me and I'd rather have crab legs. =P~

  • Ok menu plans changed in that no more rib roar since we are going out for a family members birthday for steak the day after. So those who make lamb --- what's your fav recipe? I'd like to make a braise , was thinking of Jamie Oliver's?
