Better sleep after bottle v breast?

Frustrated at 2am and in need of some advice...
My DH travels frequently but when he is home, he gives a pumped bottle (3oz) to 7 week old DS around 10pm while I pump. With this arrangement, DS will sleep 4-5 hours. Hallelujah!
When he is away, I nurse DS at 10pm and keep the same lighting, white noise etc. but he only sleeps 2 hours tops and wakes up hungry.
How is my output not enough? Confused! All you expert BFers out there- please help!
