Paraurethral Cyst (yuck!)

I posted awhile back about some abnormal swelling, and found out today that it's a paraurethral cyst. Have anyone else ever had one? How was it treated, if it was? Did you abstain from intercourse or anything else? I'm supposed to meet with a urologist but their first availability isn't until March (awesome timing, right?!) so was just putting this out there in the meantime. Hopefully I can see someone before March... :-q

Re: Paraurethral Cyst (yuck!)

  • I actually just got done dealing with this. My OB was concerned because they can leave you open to Urinary Track infections that can be dangerous to the baby. I saw a urologist and I had to have out patient surgery to have it drained and removed. (They put me to sleep but I was still at the tail end of 2nd Trimester. The anesthesiologist said in 3rd they'd have to just do an epidermal which is longer recovery in the hospital.) I was then sent home and had to wear a catheter for 5 days. It was the most miserable 5 days between soreness, bleeding, pain from the catheter, and a baby kicking on that area frequently. If your doctor thinks it's fine to wait until March, Id say not being pregnant would make it a much easier situation. It can be miserable enough this late in pregnancy.

  • @AmyBreeH‌ ugh. That sounds AWFUL. I'm going to the urologist today to find out if that's what it really is and what they need to do. I really don't want to go thru all of that but I'm terrified it's going to burst on its own considering where it is. And I'm in the 3rd trimester (32 weeks tomorrow) so sounds like it won't be a whole lot of fun. :(

@maasybaby‌ it hasn't impacted me a lot aside from looking weird down there. It's a little uncomfortable when I really have to pee. My doctor is nervous it'll impact delivery though which is why I'm going to the urologist to see if I can wait it out. I don't even know HOW it happened that I got one. Thanks for the positive thoughts!

    I'll keep ya posted.
  • @AmyBreeH‌ was yours pretty severe, is that why you had such an extreme treatment or is that typical for this type of thing?
  • It was abscess, so it was necessary to remove it in case the infection burst. I can't tell you if that's typical because I couldn't hardly find an example online it is so rare, especially in women. Additionally the urologist had the worst bedside manner and communication skills. The procedure on the Dr.'s side is pretty easy and routine. The catheter I believe is because you have packing and an open wound from the surgery, so not a good spot to be peeing all over during the healing process. I really think the rough recovery had so much to do with pregnancy. All that weight and a kicking baby sitting on that spot. Hopefully yours OP is no big deal!

I'm sorry you had such a rough experience! I went and she said it wasn't bad enough to deal with right now. I'm going back in January to have it "needled" if need be. Then she said they may do it again before labor, but she doubts it. As long as it stays like it is, she said it may take care of itself during labor (and I'll be involved in other matters so I won't notice). She did say if she took care of it now it's likely to come back which is not reassuring. I just want it gone! Oh well. Guess I just monitor and deal! :/
