weaning from the pump?

My LO just turned 1 and we are starting the weaning process. About 2 months ago i noticed my milk supply going down and i thought well i was going to wean at a year so i guess that is ok. My pump had not been performing well and turns out it wasnt working well at all and the company sent me a new one. For the past 2 weeks i have had the new one and my supply has jumped up! I am trying to get down to one pump a day during work (i have been doing 2 about 4 or 5 hrs aprt) and today is the first time i am trying it and i am in so much pain! Do i tuff it out? I feel like if i give in that my body will be like yep keep it coming. Any advice on how to do this without the pain?

Re: weaning from the pump?

  • I would keep an eye out for clogged ducts. Do you have a manual you could use to pump to relieve that pressure while you are weaning from the pump? I'm prone to clogs and mastitis so I grabbed one from Walmart for this very reason.

    Good luck!

  • pump for just a few minutes with your regular pump (maybe 5 minutes) or until you don't feel uncomfortably engorged. you may have to do this for a few days before you can comfortably drop the second pumping session.
  • I will have to try that today. I have had sore boobs since Monday and even when she does eat from me at home it is not giving them any relief feeling. Hopefully these small sessions will help out.
