softbums for NBs?

I own both echos and omnis and I know that the elastic can be adjusted to make the shells very very small.

But has anyone ever actually used them on a nb? Not a 3-week old, but a nb. I really love Softbums and they would be an awesome long-term diaper from tiny baby to big baby.

Re: softbums for NBs?

  • I personally would hate the bulk. With A the bulk didn't bother me much, but now with R I have many more sized options. I still haven't even put my Thirsties size one AIOs on her yet because they're so huge compared to the rest. I don't have any softbums, but I can't imagine any OS on her. Plus I seriously doubt it would fit under her cord.

  • I tried one on J, laughed, and immediately took it off.

And he was not a tiny baby by any standards. And this probably was at a couple weeks, sorry.

  • I watched a YouTube video by a lady trying to CD as cheaply as she could from birth to PT. She obviously used mostly flats and prefolds but SBs were her pocket of choice. She did show pics of an Omni on her NB, and it did fit albeit very bulkily. I want to say she switched out the inserts to something even trimmer than the SB NB insert for the first few weeks.

I think it could work, but I also think it would be annoying and not my top choice if I could afford something smaller for the first 3-6 weeks. (G wore SBs from 6 weeks+ and they were awesome.)

I used them on my son as a newborn. Hells yeah they were bulky, but it worked! And saved us money from buying a newborn sized stash or disposables :) best bottoms also fit him as a newborn and he had the skinniest dang legs.

Eta: my son is now 18 months old and 31 pounds and those same Softbums diapers fit him great still. The lady the owns my local cloth store talked me into them when I was pregnant and I'm glad she did.
  • I had my Omni on ds2 when he was less than 6 pounds.....granted I was using preemie prefolds with it so it didn't seem any bulkier than the other nb covers I had. I don't think I stuffed the pocket of the Omni until he was a few months old.
