is sleeping on my back and propped up ok?

I am concerned about sleeping on my back and the issues it can have with the vena cava. I'm currently almost 20 wks and I've tried to sleep on either side but it's uncomfortable and causes my hips to ache horribly. So is sleeping on my back with pillows propping me up ok? I've talked to my doc and she said rolling on my back during the night is fine...but the more I read the more I worry I'm hurting myself or my baby.if anyone has helpful advice it's appreciated.

Someone mentioned earlier about sleeping on a memory foam pad to alleviate hip pain. If it gets bad over here, I plan to get one. I'm using a bump nest body pillow and that helps keep me on my side. I still  sometimes wake up on my back!
