Anyone with an "Aspen"?

reallyblove the name Aspen but worried about NN becoming a$$ lol. Anyone have this name picked out or already have an Aspen? What other NN do you use?

Re: Anyone with an "Aspen"?

  • Not necessarily concerned with what mean names kids will come up with, just wondering if anyone had any Different nicknames for this name. I'm crazy with nicknames lol, I call my dog about 20 different nicknames a day haha.

This is a serious question because I really don't like nicknames, but why is everyone obsessed with what nickname will go with their kids name? If you like Aspen name the kid Aspen and call them Aspen.

I think for some names, you tend to do some short hand version whether you intend to or not. Maybe something a family member starts saying, you start saying or happens in a hurry. We are using the name Delaney for our girl and I can see us sometimes saying Lainey even though I plan on calling her Delaney.

  • @robotpcr I agree!! My parents chose a long name for me with lots of nickname possibilities, thinking I would have choices later on. But then they started calling me by the nn my aunt suggested when I was 2, and I never got to choose. Now I constantly have to explain that my full name is not Allison, or I don't go by "Alex", or here's how you really spell my name... ugh.

My kids are getting names that can stand alone, like Aspen. Love it.

  • Love the name! If she gets a nn it'll probably be spontaneous.

This - I'm a teacher, and I've heard mean nicknames for just about every name imaginable.
  • Another unkind nn can be Aspie, like short for Asperbergers.

I agree its a lovely name, just wanted to bring that other nn up in case it makes a difference.

    Agreed.

You don't have to have a nn. And if you want one make one up I guess. My mom has called me Boo Boo since I was 4... Has nothing to do with my real name.
For whatever reason I sometimes call DS Boo Boo!
  • It doesn't matter if you give your kid a nn or not. Once they start school or sports they will most likely be given one. You can still call your child by their given name though.
