Has anyone else taken Tamiflu?

Yeah I am that mama who doesn't get the flu shot and I don't let my kids get it either. Well my son contracted the flu and started to show early symptoms yesterday and they prescribed him tamiflu, they also prescribed my daughter the same thing so she doesn't get it and they advised me to call my OB to ask them if I should be put on it. They called it in for me and I have to take one pill a day for 10 days for prevention. Today was my second dose. I just ran to the bathroom and hurled everywhere. :( The only sides effects are nausea and vomiting. Have anyone else taken Tamiflu this season? I hope it's safe for me. The doctor said it was but the website says pregnant woman should not take it or consult a doctor.

Re: Has anyone else taken Tamiflu?

  • I've never taken it personally but my oldest son took about 6 years ago and it made him sick as a dog, he had horrible upset stomach. They wouldn't give it to my youngest because he runs exceptionally high fever (104-105) and they were afraid it would dehydrate him.

So your OB called it in? I'm sure it's one of those things where benefit outweighs the risk. I think it would be worse for you to get the flu than to take tamiflu. Since you already have 1 persons dx with it at your house your chances are much more likely to get it. I always got the flu when my kids got it regardless of how much I disinfected. The tamiflu doesn't prevent you from getting the flu I though, it just makes the symptoms not as severe and maybe a day or two shorter.

    Fucking bump!!!!

  • We just came from pediatrician's office ourselves.... Doc said a new side effect they're seeing of tamiflu is hallucinations in toddlers along with the vomiting. Hope your family is better soon!

Thankfully my kids haven't vomited but I have twice this am. I feel perfect now..no aches or anything. I think because I took it on an empty stomach is the reason I got sick earlier. My son is actually feeling better! He's acting fine other than saying his head hurts but kids are so resilient. They bounce back so fast. Hoping it doesn't spread to anyone else in our household!
  • The hallucinations are usually just in children and it is one reason they don't always give it to children. We had to give it to our 1 year old last year when she had the flu and had to give it with food or it made her projectile vomit.
  • I have taken tamiflu before and I had no side effects ... I work in long term care it was either that or the flu shot.. I am sure it is ok for pregnant women as well just make sure you take it with a full stomach as they have some powerful ingredients.hopefully you and your family get better!!
