Nursing too long?

My DS ( 12 weeks) will nurse for 30 mins each side and even then I sometimes have to pull him off.

He's also had consistent green poop ( almost every poopy diaper) for the past 3 weeks.

My pedi thinks it's from an overactive letdown ( though I don't think I have any other sympotoms of that) she suggested feeding him smaller amounts but it's hard to know how much he's getting while BF.

So should I only be nursing 15 mins per side? Help!

I'd talk to an actual LC rather than a doctor. Green poops, from what I know, result from milk that is basically not fatty enough. So, that could be a result of several things - not draining the breast well, which could be from oversupply (baby gets full before getting to the fatty hindmilk), an undiagnosed lip or tongue tie or otherwise poor latch that is affecting the baby's ability to drain the breast...or it could be that your diet isn't high enough in fat - fat content of milk is highly variable based on mom's diet.

If he baby is nursing for a long time, I'd say it's more likely that the issue is either dietary or from not draining well, either a structural or latch issue. If it were oversupply or overactive letdown I'd think you'd see the baby get full really quickly. In any case, talk to someone who is an actual expert in the subject.

What would be some things to eat to help with the fat content?

If my baby nurses that long, I try a pacifier. And I've nursed two babies for almost a year. Never had nipple confusion.
