Trying to Get Pregnant

FFFC

Do the flame-free-friday-confession thing.  The only true part about that is Friday and sometimes confessions.

  • FFFC: My anxiety has been out of control lately. I don't have panic attacks but I have a constant tightness in my chest and it pretty much gets tighter whenever I worry about something (constantly).

The confession part is that I really think my anxiety is preventing me from getting pregnant, and it gets worse every time I try to decrease it.

Flame away as I know this isn't a popular viewpoint.

  • Okay, here's a different one.  I rarely clean my grill tools.  The grill tongs and spatula usually just stay outside and I blow the dust off and use them.  It's fine.

Also, I'm eating mashed potatoes and gravy for breakfast.
I do the same. I also don't thoroughly wash my cast iron pans. Seasoning. Not laziness on my part
We are the same way. I think I wash our cast iron skillet and pot more thoroughly than DH but we definitely are lacking on keeping up with the seasoning.

My H hides my tests cause he knows I love peeing on things. What he doesn't know... I have 3 tests I hid in my apron. He'll never look there.

Also, I ate Christmas m&ms for dinner last night. My stomach hurts but it was totally worth it.

oh no, I NEVER wash (with soap/water) my cast iron skillet.

I "wash" my cast iron skillet by boiling water in it. Never ever ever use soap or any other cleaning product on a cast iron skillet!
Oh no! DH has been doing right this whole time!!! I suck. I've always wondered why they look oily when I put them away.

  • @goldenlove3: hugs to you, my dear. I'm sorry you haven't been getting the answers you are looking for and I have my FX for you.

We were supposed to be sent off for testing per my metabolic protocol but we have no IF coverage - so we decided to wait the year. In the meantime, I've decided I'm going to make meditation a priority for 30 min each night (I downloaded and app) and I'm going to see a therapist. Hopefully that helps - I downloaded a free app and so far, so good!

Have you tried anything like that?

What the actual fuck.  I'm 87 years old.

Haha. This literally had me LOL!

I spent the day yesterday with a friend sewing and playing with our serger settings. I also thought I must be 87yo if this is how I spend time with friends.

    First: I have a "doctor's appointment" at 11am.

Yes, it's medically related.  My back and neck muscles are so effed from a medication that I have to take that their tightness and spasms are giving me migraines.  So, my appointment at 11am is for a massage.

Sounds legit to me! Enjoy your "appt".

I feel this way too even though I know general consensus is that stress doesn't cause infertility. I still feel like it does something (maybe bloodflow or hormone related). I'm not taking the unexplained infertility so well so I'd rather think that it's the crazy work stress I've been under.
While I get the desire to blame something, stress does not make a person infertile unless you are so stressed that it is causing other physical issues.

It's not a consensus among the board, it's a medical fact.

Uh, yup, fully aware of that. Which is exactly why my feeling is often a UO here - because science doesn't necessarily back it up. Hence, my FFFC.

People are allowed to comment. You've been here long enough to know better.

I just clarified my POV. I wasn't being snarky.

Edited for snark, because I'm trying to be a better person today.

  • @grandiosequestion I knew "general consensus" wasn't the correct phrase. I know it's medical fact, it's just hard to shake the feeling.
Like I said, I get wanting to blame it on something. But trying to blame it on something that you know absolutely isn't the issue really doesn't accomplish much. If anything it may just make you feel worse for continuing to work there, which can raise your stress level again, and just makes life not fun for you.

Unexplained IF doesn't mean there isn't an issue. It means there isn't an obvious issue based on standard tests. Hopefully meds and IUI are enough to overcome whatever the actual issue is.

So is there an actual study that shows there is no link? I've been trying to read up on both sides of it and can't seem to find anything about stress NOT impacting fertility. There's a lot of "it's not clear if it does" and a ton of articles about how it might. Just trying to educate myself on the science of it.
I just searched some databases. The studies vary. Some say low/moderate doesn't. Others say it does. I just read something about alpha-amylase (a digestion enzyme) being released with increased stress levels (along with cortisol), but in a small study, the higher cortisol levels didn't impact fertility, but the higher amylase levels did - decreased the likelihood of conception (per month) by 12%. I didn't read the actual article, but I'm searching for it now. Mainly, it needs to be studied more because it's still just speculation. The article also discussed how these levels could stall a fertilized egg from implanting and something about perfusion.

I read a meta-analysis that spoke to the high rates of personal ancedote's of individuals who relax (go on vacation, "stop trying", etc etc) and who get pregnant during those times but that is highly speculative and there was no scientific data backing it up.

I have a Tumblr.  I only use it for two things:

    1.  Looking at pictures of *insert attractive actor here*
    2.  Porn

Tumblr gets a lot of use during my FW.

Today is the first time I hear about Tumblr being used for this. My interest is piqued.

  • @chad5285 - thanks for that info. I'm starting to see a therapist and I downloaded a mediation app to try every night for 30 minutes.

I will say, I am a gym rat, but haven't been since August because of multiple moves and a job change - and my anxiety has significantly increased, so I totally can relate to the connection. Looks like I have to get back to the gym soon as well!

I sometimes love public transportation because I get to people watch.
    I'm an early morning person.
While riding the bus I often wish I could start an instagram compiled of people sleeping/snoring/nodding-for-cock, picking their nose, or kids doing whatever kids do on the bus.
