Crib sleeping

Im sitting in my dd's room wrapped up in one of her blankets because I know if I go downstairs and back to bed she will be right back up! I'm not sure I've slept tonight and it's 5 in the morning. Bear with me, as I hope this post makes sense! Tonight was the first night we tried the crib. She has been napping in it for about a week and is getting better at that. The problem I'm having is that she continues to move back and forth across her bed and wakes herself up. She's used to her rnp where she was all snug. I have looked through old posts and didn't see much, so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to make her feel more secure but are safe for her at the same time?

Re: Crib sleeping

  • I had the same problem with my DS. He now sleeps in a halo swaddle sleep sack. This makes him feel snug and secure. Plus he stays safe and warm. Good luck I know it's a hard but important transition.

  • I have her in a swaddle me but she loves to break free! I have a Merlins Magic Suit on order so I'm hoping that helps!
  • We used this site and made the mattress slanted. I like that we made an u shaped nest which I imagine feels more secure. Plus I don't worry about her sliding down. Plohttps://incredibleinfant.com/sleeping/baby-hates-crib/

We transitioned at 8 weeks because the RnP wasn't letting her head turn much. She's 13 weeks now. It took a few days before she started sleeping better again. Unfortunately not as long as the rnp but I adjusted.

  • I second the Halo sleepsack.  My daughter sleeps in the RNP during the day, but is great at night in the sleep sack.  I noticed if you angle the flaps over their shoulders and down over their arms it's harder for them to break out of it.  She does anyway, but still sleeps well in there!  My friend's baby loved the wombie, so you may want to try that if he always breaks out of it.

I inclined his mattress (he has reflux) and created a u with a rolled blanket under the mattress pad like pp mentioned. I also draped one of my shirts id worn to sleep in a couple nights on the side of the crib. As far as swaddling I created my own "super swaddle" using a folded up receiving blanket and a swaddle me since my Houdini can escape the miracle blanket (you tube "super swaddle" i'd link but I'm mobile)

He's been in his crib a week now. The first night he slept a whole 2 hours at a time (he was doing 8 in the rnp) He increased his time by an hour a night. Last night he gave me 7 hours! My advice is just to stick with it. They will get used to it. Gl!

  • For DS we swaddled him, then I rolled up receiving blankets and placed them on both sides of him so he feels more secure. He's been sleeping in his crib for 3 weeks now. Just stick with it. It can be hard at first but they will get it.

  • My son isn't in his crib yet (2 months old today) but up until last week be was still waking every 2 hours at night. Someone recommended the miracle swaddle blanket and BAM for a week now he has been sleeping 9/10-3, and eats, and sleeps again til 6. It's my favorite swaddle blanket so far because it doesn't have zippers or Velcro but trust me there's no breaking free! My family kept making fun of me over Thanksgiving calling it "baby jail".
  • DH calls it the baby straight jacket. V has busted out of it once but it was in her rock n play while on vacation last week and she was rocking that thing so much during the night that I am not surprised. Sounded like she was trying to flip it.

We are having issues with going back to the crib too after a week of the rock n play. To be honest I'd noticed she slept better in it and she was sleeping more and more in it anyways before my pedi said to wean her as she is trying to roll. I'm going to try the u shaped blankets at the bottom to see if that will help.
  • Following... Z has been sleeping in the swing since he was diagnosed with reflux about a month ago, but now the pedi wants him back in the crib when she heard he's started to flop his weight around (even though he seems nowhere near rolling yet) bc she's apparently worried he could fling himself out or tip it over. He's in the miracle blanket so I guess we'll try the slant/U thing..

  • We create a bit of a nest in the crib. We roll up two blankets on each side of LO, cover those with a blanket and then put LO on top in the nest. He is swaddled and the nest only reaches below his shoulders so he can feel it but not turn into it. He is nowhere close to rolling and his crib is in my bedroom. He sleeps like crap during the day but at night we get 7:45-6:30 on average at 12 weeks.
