DD has 9 teeth. One of her lateral incisors came in about a month ago...and still no matching one to go with it. Her pedi didn't seem too concerned, but is there anyone else experiencing this? How long should I wait before I do something about it?
I had all of my baby teeth but I was/ am Missing a permanent canine tooth. Before I got braces they ended up pulling the canine I had and just moving all of my teeth forward and reshaping the tooth next to it to resemble a canine. You can't even tell I'm missing my canines. I doubt that they would do anything about a missing baby tooth but who knows? Ds1 has a cavity and they said that if it gets bad and it needs to be removed (we are having an awful time getting him to sit for a filling) they would need to put a spacer in to save the spot for permanent tooth. I guess this something to think about.
Three out of LO's four incisors came in a month apart from each other. I'm certainly not a dentist by any means, but it doesn't sound like something to be concerned about just yet.
Any time these threads come up, I always feel like an awful mom because I have no idea how many teeth my child has and I don't know if she has canines or bicuspids because I don't know which ones are which..
What's a bicuspid? I assume canines are the vampire-fangy ones.
N's teeth definitely haven't followed the chart. She's been getting her teeth on the left side of her mouth first. She has her two center teeth, and then her left canines and left molars. Has had those for a month by themselves. She's just now showing signs of getting her right canines.
It's a goofy picture, but here you can see that he only has 3 bottom front teeth This picture was taken over a month ago, and since you can see that the tooth is completely grown in, that tells you how long ago the tooth appeared! The second one just popped through the gum this week.
Yea, that's where DD's tooth is missing. You can clearly see from her holiday photo!
@WorkinIt believe me, we have been trying to get it fixed. We go there every 2 months for a fluoride treatment and they try to do it. He hates the nose for the nitrous oxide. That's the major problem. We just had to bring him to a new dentist this past week because the one we were seeing refused to try anymore and she said she wouldn't bring a kid to the hospital to fill just one cavity. On Tuesday when we went to the new dentist they gave him a practice nose to bring home. We go again on December 16 to try. Most dentist will not have a child put under General anesthesia for one cavity. I want to get it done and over with as it seriously stresses me out because I don't want him to get pain from it. Here he is the other night practicing breathing with his nose.
@WorkinIt thank you. The old dentist kept trying every 2 months but the second he said no he didn't want the nose she would stop and say she wasn't going to attempt it. She never was really good with him and my husband and I feel like she never even really tried to get it done. This new dentist office is much better. They needed to see his X-rays and that is why they didn't try to fill it this past Tuesday. He really likes the nose now and asks for it throughout the day (it smells like bubblegum) so I hope that when we go back he will wear it long enough to get enough nitrous oxide in him to relax him for the filing. I'm 34 and never have had a cavity so all of this is really nerve wracking for me since I don't know what they do or if it hurts, etc. I hope the ds2 doesn't have any issues because this has truly been a nightmare going to dentist constantly and praying all of the time that his cavity doesn't get bigger and start to bother him.
Yes, I would try to get it done soon too. The longer you wait, the higher percentage it'll become infected. My husband had a bad cavity a few years ago...WAITED, and had it filled. A few months ago it got infected and he needed a root canal. It's just a baby tooth, but still, you don't want your son in pain, and potentially having a dentist remove it.
@WorkinIt first off op, I'm sorry for hijacking your post. I just have a question for you. My friend said that her son's dentist filled a cavity in her son when he was 4 too. She said that she didn't use novacaine or anything and it took like 2 seconds. I'm bringing ds1 there next Wednesday to see what she says. When I called their office the receptionist said that sometimes they will do a sealant instead of drilling and filling. Have you ever heard of this? It sounds too good to be true but I figure since his new dentist can't see him again until the 16th I'll bring him to this one and see what her opinion is.
