Nursery: Weird or no?

Just recently DD crib was discontinued. It was the Graco Lauren in Walnut. Only the walnut color was discontinued. With having boy/girl twins, would it be weird to get a different color like white for the other? I'd rather not buy two new cribs and don't have the patience to sand and paint the walnut colored one. What says you M15?

If it's any extra help...I'm not going overly crazy with a theme but maybe a somewhat safari so it can work for both sexes. There is more oak wood furniture in the room, the walls will be grey, a grey love seat and different colors for each bedding.

Your walnut version is available at wayfair.com now for $169 and free shipping.

It says it's out of stock for me but says ships 12/9 like the other colors. :/

I see no issue with two cribs different colors. At all.
Same. I wouldn't think it's weird at all. If I were you, I would not buy two new cribs.
  • Do you have a buy/trade/swap Facebook group for your town? Check there first to see if anyone has the crib you're looking for. Or see if you can find a similar style/color crib.

While this is something I would categorize as a first world problem and really in the grand scheme isn't a big deal. But, with that said it would bug me too :)

  • Totally a first world problem. I used to be a visual merchandiser for a department store...my brain operates in weird ways. I must have balance :D

  • Thanks for all your input everyone. @nykkybaby‌ I bow down to you interior designers. I'm always amazed at the work you all do. Twins really threw a wrench into a the previous ideas we had for the rooms in our house. We have had to totally move rooms around in some less than ideal ways and definitely we will be moving sooner than planned. Probably around the time the twins will be moving into twin beds. We never intended to be a family of 5 in this house :)

  • I don't think it's weird at all, I think it's a cute idea and they get their own little space that's different. Just because they are twins does not mean everything has to be matchy-matchy. Post pics once you get it set up!
  • It would bug the heck out of me.  I would try to buy a new one in that color.  Keep looking, I'm sure someone has it.  It would annoy me enough to buy two new cribs, but I know I would see it every time I walked into that room, but few things would, 2 cribs is one.
  • Personally I'm the type doesn't like uniform/perfect so I would say two different crib colors is the way to go! Be thrifty and save that money!

I think it could work. As others have said, you could bring everything together with different items in the room.

I fully get the whole retail balance merchandise thing, and how you see things differently and like everything to match/resemble each other, but I still think it could work. I saw the below picture on Pinterest. Maybe it could help?

They don't exactly match but still compliment each other.

  • You could also do an espresso and walnut. May go better depending what you do besides the cribs.

I agree, I would prefer a lighter and a darker stain of wood versus one stained and one painted.

  • Thanks everyone! I ended up ordering from Shopko with what has to be one of the last available matches. It was on clearance and I found a $15 off coupon online too! Thank you for sharing @Maggiet19! I had searched a ton in the last few weeks trying to find it but that page never showed up. Did you see it @blackpearl08?

@JerseyAKL As much as I would like to go overboard with coordinating paint, I'm not in conservation mode of personalizing too much so that we have less work to do in about 2-3 years when we put it on the market! :) That's why I'm going with a neutral grey. I do however plan on doing unique window treatments! Changing the bow colors in the picture below.

The room itself is kind of weird because it is actually our bonus room since we were running out of space. So the windows are a little awkward and not like a typical bedroom window. It's also a much longer room than it is depth wise but the window placement doesn't make for a pretty traditional setup.

The plan right now is to put the cribs together like this:

And make the window treatments like this with bows that match the side of the room:

  • Just saw that you ordered the walnut one - hooray! I was going to suggest (and maybe you can use it on other furniture) that if you went with the white crib you could jaggedly cut some black electric tape and put it on the white crib a la zebra stripes since you want to go with a safari theme.

Glad you were able to get the original one though.
