Recap for @fitmama418 . Law enforcement and conservatives knee jerk reaction to defend. Also touched on cameras on streets and officers and is it too much invasion of privacy or for the greater good.
I guess my UO today is: there are certain things best left off a public forum (our BMB) that has evolved from a place of "strangers seeking parenting advice" to "moms who now actually know each other and have gotten close" those being religion, politics, and otherwise "you're either on this side or that side" issues.
There are reasons why I don't discuss religion and politics with some of my BFF's IRL. I know we don't agree, so why cause strife in an otherwise healthy and positive relationship.
People are pissed as shit at LE in this country; I get that. My town is currently seeing a high rise in crime and it makes me nervous, both for the community and for our police officers whose every moves are surely being scrutinized.
This UO is all over the place but...I will continue to ignore the posts related to what I mentioned in paragraph one, and continue to gif and talk about Pottery Barn, Anywhere Chairs (!!!!!!!!!!!!), fashion, food and coupons.
I like talking about religion and politics with my friends. I enjoy being a part of a group of people who give you something to think about. I can usually agree to disagree and move on. If it's something so extreme that I can't move on then we don't need to be friends. I have very few hills to die on so for me to stop liking you over something it has to be pretty major.

I feel the same way. Even though I have more friends who have similar political/religious views to myself than not, we still disagree on some things and we can usually have good, calm discussions about it all.
This is more of a FFC than UO but things that would have gotten me fired up normally are not effecting me. I am digging, but there are no fucks left. My fuck bucket is empty. Pretty soon I will just be MotherKatie.
Oh Another UO, although this one mainly implies to Nebraska, but I really don't give a hoot about who the new Husker football coach will be...
Now, if anyone from Nebraska (or my immediate family) finds this out, I will most likely be banished from the state... sooo that means I can come live with....? lol
I can't imagine having friends who I can't discuss religion, politics, etc. with.
I think part of close friendship is being able to discuss differing viewpoints, disagree, and learn from each other. While I will try my best not to hurt a friend's feelings (for example, I would never make a friend feel bad for being involved in organized religion), I won't censor myself.
I know you won't, and yet I still PPH love you! :x
The only hot topic argument I've ever had was with my grandma about gay marriage... it is a hot topic for her, seeing as she is extremely conservative. Her defense: It's a sin in the bible...
As most people in Nebraska are, it's hard here to find someone to have a real conversation with... IMO, a lot of Nebraskans would rather stick their heads in the sand and watch Fox News...
I have a UO about HMD's, but I feel like it would just be old news thanks to Tilapia.
@untaggablekatie- My brother doesn't even live in NE anymore but I'm pretty sure he is probably going to hunt you down if he ever finds your post. He's a CH for lyfe.
UO (maybe not, idk): I would rather see someone just take the warning and call someone out on their shit, than having a billion PM's flying naming the offender. It all feels like petty middle school drama. FTR, this isn't about just the FF carseat situation, I feel this way anytime stuff like this goes down.
But I don't think it's a warning -- it's an automatic ban, no?
It depends on what you say. You can say hey GP I think that you're sprouting off a lot of bullshit and you should probably stfu. That's not a TOU violation. If you made a thread specifically to call me out about something like the old BOABs then that's a violation and I believe that it's an automatic ban.
I'm a little annoyed with these UOs today, guise. We should totes get back to discussing the really important shit like baked goods.
Can't tell if you're being serious or cheeky...
Irritated, for real. We can only have so many shallow discussions, we've been on the board with each other for a long time (most of us). I genuinely don't understand what anyone gains from avoiding these topics, but I feel there is a great deal to be gained by having the conversations we did yesterday.

For some, sure. I have enough discussions with my husband, my friends, my family, etc. of varying opinions and beliefs each and every day that I personally don't feel the need to berate the issues on the internet. 8 out of 10 times it results in exhausting net battles and stress. I'd rather spend recreational internet time differently, that's all. I don't think it's wrong to engage in those conversations at all. Maybe my UO should have been phrased that "I will forever choose not to engage in" rather than "they should be kept off public forum." There, that's how I'd like to re-word my previous UO. Use the boards however you choose, fine by me!
One of my favorite things about TB in general, and this board in particular, is that we have so many bright, articulate, accomplished women from all walks of life and I enjoy having the opportunity to have these discussions with them. I think I know where certain people will fall on any given topic, but someone almost always advances a point I hadn't considered. Also, like @CFox815, I'm conservative but leaning left more and more the older I get. I don't care about how anyone chooses to define themselves politically, I just want to be able to have a thoughtful, informed, coherent conversations.
I want to contribute to hot button threads, but I'm not well read enough most times and feel like I would get trampled...and I'm sensitive and would not do well with that. If I'm better informed on a topic than I will try to contribute. I do like to read them though so I can learn!
My UO: I'm not 100% sure I am going to introduce Santa to T. ETA: That may be a FFFC. Maybe saying that I feel like I am lying to him makes it and UO? I don't know. I'm not good at this game!

I don't see that flameworthy, personally. If your family doesn't want to "do" the Santa thing for whatever reason, that's fine by me. What gets my goat a little is the "I feel like I'm lying to my kids" piece of it all. I see no harm in encouraging your children to believe in a little bit of magic.
I was going to post a long diatribe here that got a little too crazy religious so I refrained.

To be honest @fitmama418 the reason I maybe don't want to do Santa is because I truly do believe in God and heaven, and believe that is where T's dad is. Therefore I don't want him to question that when he finds out Santa isn't real. Guess that's my UO.
I hate the terms "man up" and get some balls/grow a pair. Why can't you just say grow up or act like an adult. Whatever the offending guy did would still be wrong if he was a woman.
@Sing2phins I actually agree with you that they are different. I think I'm just genuinely terrified of T being told his dad isn't in heaven because it isn't real and I'm worried about anything that would make him feel that way.
I probably still will do Santa because I love Christmas stuff, I just am not sure.
Okay, ladies, I know I intro'd, posted a few times, and then disappeared, BUT I saw the Santa talk today and it reminded me of something I saw on Pinterest (where else..) awhile back. It may not be anyone else's cup of tea but I liked it. So, just in case .. @TJHine
@TJHine since we started going in that direction, I'll share what I said I wasn't going to:
(Here's where I break what I said in my UO and talk about religion
BUT...it's relevant here and I don't think my faith will be a surprise
to many of you anyway). We believe in Santa...but we are also practicing
Catholics and strong in our faith, too. Christmas is about Jesus to us
at the end of the day. I think I shared this article around this time
last year, I can't remember, but when the time comes...this is how we
plan on tying together Jesus and Santa (through the use of yes, our Elf
on the Shelf):
@fitmama418 I will check those links out, thank you!
@LJGS1010 You are absolutely correct lady, all of what you said. I will be sure he has a strong base in our beliefs, and while I will teach him that I know I can't control if he decides to believe or not to believe. And I want him to be comfortable talking to me either way. I just worry about him, and worry about him growing up without Tim and all the questions he will have and how to explain it all. But that's on me, not him.

Speaking of Anywhere chairs... LO's slip-cover arrived last night!!! Can't wait to get it all ready
UO: I don't understand the appeal of Iggy Azela... I mean fancy was my early summer Jam... but I just don't get her...
I also agree with @fitmama814.. there are just some topics that are like sparks by a powder keg...

@mrscatfarmer13, I have family members that would beat him to the punch... literally haha.
The huskers are the state religion for Nebraska. I usually go shopping durning games... the malls are dead.

I think the Elf on the Shelf is fuckin creepy and I will NEVER have it in my house. I get that kids think it is fun and whatnot, but it creeps me out.

Someone on my FB had a comment about how she was NOT going to post anything on the Ferguson case, but then linked the officer's ABC Interview...
What?!?!?! I'm so tempted to comment.. but you do realize you just posted something about it.
Someone beat me to the punch though... haha
