PW: Over the counter cough relief

Anybody found one that works good? I'm getting over the flu ( it was awful.. Get your shot y'all) I was so weak and achy. Just awful. Anyway a nasty cough came with the package and I can't shake it. Keeps me up at night. I've been taking robetessin and it just doesn't help like it should. I went to the pharmacy yesterday and the pharmacist said try Zyrtec.. Yeah that hasn't done diddly. Pretty sure a trip to urgent care is in order even though I don't have a fever and am not achy like I was. Just wondering if anyone has anything they've used that's been safe and effective. I've never had a continual cough like this. Tired of it making my head hurt and tired of peeing my pants every two seconds. :( thanks!

  • @hillbillywife‌ Fell better! This crud sucks! @Laynabella‌ I'll try the vaporizer! I end to get more honey! I've been drinking so much tea it's all gone! Thanks for the tips! @doribeth851‌ Thanks for the tip. It's the combo I've been doing but at night it's not working. Whaaa
  • Hot tea with honey and lemon works wonders for me. My grandma swears by gargling salt water and/or pickle juice. Also, a little vicks around the nostrils and on the chest helps a lot too. (Check with your doctor to make sure it is ok to use during pregnancy).

Thanks! I'll ask today. I haven't tried the rub.
  • You too @JJBoden‌ it definitely is no fun.

@rsaj0807‌ Halloween?! Yikes. What I wouldn't give for some day/NyQuil!
  • My doctor said Mucinex or Robitussin. I was sick a few weeks ago with a sinus infection and would wake myself up coughing at night I was coughing so hard. Mucinex worked much better than the Robitussin. I hope you start feeling better!

  • My go to is honey and a little lemon, heat it 20 seconds or so in the microwave. (Just a little of each ingredient)Then, just eat it like soup. It helps soothe your throat and helps with the cough. Feel better!! I just started getting sick last night--no fun!!
  • You could try buckwheat honey--there's actually good evidence that it works better than OTC cough suppressants (at least in kids): https://archpedi.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=571638

Sorry you can't shake the cough! I've caught something and I'm on day 3....and I feel ya, Robitussin is doing little to nothing for me. I'll have to try the tea with honey/lemon too...hope you get to feeling better soon!
And yikes @rsaj0807‌, I feel so bad for you! My friend's reply (who is also pregnant right now) when I told her I was sick, "You're pregnant, you can't get sick!" Then proceeded to tell me all about how she works with 100 kids a day, sending multiple home each week with flu/strep symptoms and she hasn't caught anything yet. Whoop-de-doo for you.

  • So this was a few weeks ago and my flu cough did I fact turn into bronchitis :( I got a zpack and an inhaler. The cough had been going on since Thanksgiving, its not as bad but still there. My doctor just said it could take a few more weeks to clear up. Yay yay. My having bronchitis gave my 2 year old croup. It's been fun! Hope you guys all feel better!
