Help :(

I know not too many are around anymore and I don't know if anyone will have any answer but I don't know who to ask.

My neighbors broke up a few months back. The one that moved out took two off their three dogs, the other dog stayed here as a "mercy" (they were going to put him in a shelter but he would have been put down because he had seizures so she ended up keeping him). He is a very sweet dog. And he is so neglected :( I listened to him whine at the back door to go in for over an hour last night and no one came to him. He has been at the back door whimpering for almost 2 hours now. They are home. I can see them walking around as I spy through the gates. They walk by the door, he whimpers and paws the door, they don't even look at him. My heart is breaking. The girlfriend's Mom had him out on a rare walk a while back and he had poop hanging off his belly. And as far as I know, that's the only walk he's been on in months and months. He is clearly neglected and I don't know what to do :( Any suggestions?

Re: Help :(

  • Can you call a non emergency police # and see what they say?

  • Maybe @Cambury108‌ has some advice
  • I say do what your heart tells you is right dear. He is being neglected and he has no voice. Speak up to someone about him. Maybe try your local human society? Find a local breed specific or general rescue and put the wheels in motion for him. Please help him out of this situation. For the time being if he is friendly and your able I would shelter him somewhere. Enclosed porch, garage or maybe a bathroom. If you cant do that maybe try going to the gate/fence and act interested in him and maybe they will take notice and come get him. If they ask what you're doing just say "hes been whining for quite awhile and I wasnt sure if you heard him so I came to make sure he was OK" This is a hard situation and I dont envy you. Hugs.
  • Can you call the SPCA or animal rescue? You could make sure they know that you'll find him a home if they can't before they put him down. Good luck.

  • Reporting back, sorry it took a couple days. I got a little more information by talking to the girlfriend who moved out (she no longer speaks to her ex-partner for her son's sake). It was not poop hanging off the dog, he has had a large skin tag for a while, so that was good news. They did take the dog in, not sure what time, but he was definitely out a while. The weather has been pretty rainy so I'm happy to say, they have been keeping him inside. Right now, we're just keeping an eye on things, peeking through the fence to check if he's been left out. He is kept inside when they aren't home. If we hear him whining again, DH is going to go talk to them first and let them know the can't treat him that way before we make any calls. Needless to say, my pup has been getting extra snuggles.
