Toddlers and Colic

STMs, how are you managing your older children while baby is inconsolable? We've had the craziest few days where LO screams for hours and I try various things the entire time to calm him, and my 3yo is essentially fending for himself. I can't play with him, and if I go too close, he covers his ears and starts to cry himself. :/

DS has been watching entirely too much TV the last couple days. I'm thinking I need to set up some activities or something for him to do in advance that doesn't require me to help out much, but would be fun and engaging for him. I'm just not sure what.

Oh, and playing outside is not an option. It's upper 30s and raining.

We were struggling with this and I ended up buying DS some Melissa & Doug latchboards and puzzles on Amazon to occupy him while we are busy with DD.

Edit: DS has definitely still had to much tv as well.

  • Luckily, we have it the worst when DD is asleep and it *somehow* doesn't wake her up. A lot of TV and kids kindle has been happening here. I know it's not great, but it won't hurt her for a few months while we figure out what our new normal is and how to integrate DS into that.

  • Struggling here too. I feel mountains of guilt that I simply can't give her more focused attention during the day. And when the little guy is napping and I'm reading or playing a game with her I've been falling asleep...until she pokes me awake. Yeesh. If it's been an especially fussy day DH will take her out somewhere special when he gets home.

Moms to 3,4 or more kids- hats off to you!
