Sitter called off for today, and just texted that she's out for the rest of the week. This really fucking sucks huge monkey balls.
I think out of frustration I am feeling angry about how many days off she takes. This is a family emergency, next week she's out for the fourth time this year for a "court date" with her daughter, and she takes 2 full weeks paid vacation in the summer and really extends the paid days out from the holidays. Like, 2 weeks paid for Christmas, the days before and after the 4th of July if they are week days, day after Thanksgiving, January 2nd, etc.
The way it works with my company is that you get a bulk pool of days for vaca and sick days. If you use all of your days on vacation, then you are unpaid on any additional days you take off.
Blah, I am just frustrated. She's so affordable, but FUCK.
We scheduled an elective u/s for my birthday on January 25th, We were team green with Carter, but I have to know for planning purposes this time around, because we're 2 and done.
@redneckmomma did you guys do an elective, or what that your normal a/s?
I am really just over this whole working thing - we are "waiting" to find out if we our jobs will stay or go and I am like just f'ing tell me already!
I think I just might be ready to leave this company and find something new, but I don't know what that is. Damn it. its Christmas time - i want to be jolly.
I have also decided i want to start my holiday baking now. i need cookies!
@tinyhumantoe, that does suck huge monkey balls. Life is stressful enough without never being sure if your sitter is going to call off. Have you talked to her about the extra days she takes around holidays to explain that you don't get that much time off work? Was there any sort of agreement when she started watching W?
@smb+jab, I wish your company would just pull it together and announce one way or the other. this is the worst time of year to do layoffs.
My day started in a grumpy way. DH twisted his ankle yesterday, and when I asked him how it was feeling this morning, he snapped at me. OK, fine, dude, take care of yourself, but don't come whining to me later when it's still the size of a basketball and you haven't seen the doc. Then, as I was locking our asshole dog in his crate, I discovered that he peed on our basement floor in three places sometime overnight or this morning. You know how much pee that was from a Labrador? A holy s-ton. Just what I wanted to be mopping up before work. Looks like we're going to have to go back to crating him at night too. I'm really, really over our pets right now. So I stopped at Starbucks on my way into work to cheer myself up. It sort of worked, but now I'm here and not motivated to work on any of the BS on my desk.
@melody921 the contract lists all holiday and vacation days she wants off for the year, so we agree to those by default. It does not have any other allotment for sick or personal days.
Anyway............... the truth is, it's not really worth saying anything. I think the confrontation would ruin our relationship, and I don't want to burden her when her husband is having trouble. They aren't really the type to save money for unexpected things.... so I wonder what would have to give if she lost out on a week of income. If we're going to do anything, we'll just switch. There have probably been 4 days that a center would have sent W home for being sick and she was able to stay there, so that's something I have to remember too.
I have a meeting with a senator on Friday. DH has a huge meeting for his job. MIL is back from CO but is too exhausted to have W. My mom can't take her. My sister can't take her. So........ I guess I"m going on care.com for the first time to try to figure something out. So frustrating.
Ugh, that sucks @tinyhumantoe. Even if it's totally justifiable, it sucks having to find coverage last minute for daycare. DH & I inevitably end up fighting when it happens because it becomes a discussion about who's job has the least important thing going on.
My morning started off with my boss being snippy about something and nagging me on something else. It put me in a bad mood.
On the upside - tomorrow I get to go shopping for families that my team is sponsoring for Christmas! We pooled together a bunch of money and are sponsoring 12 kids this year. It's amazing how much you can do with a large group of people. And we get to deliver them as well, which I'm super excited about. From the conversations we've had with them these families are so sweet.
I want to cut someone at TRU right now (where's @jenndub to help with this?!) The imbeciles delivered the kids' trampoline yesterday not in another box, so DS saw the picture on the front of it before DH could hide it. WTF! Now DH and I need to figure out what story to concoct. I was in favor of telling him it was a gift for a needy kid and then encouraging him to ask Santa for it if he thinks it's cool. DH was all for waiting and seeing if he asks about it on Xmas morning, and if so, saying that sometimes Santa delivers presents early if he's in the area to make more room in his sleigh. :-/
@kelbel527, we've done that as a family for the last few years. This year we're donating to a rehab facility in the area and that was really cool too, given what my family has been going through this year with my cousin. We all pooled our Kohls cash and ended up getting 6 sets of sheets, a Dyson vacuum & a coffee pot!

After doing it this year at work, I'd like to do the same thing next year as a family. We've always bought gifts off a giving tree and Brody has started helping with that, but I like the idea of getting the kids more involved, and by dropping off the gifts ourselves, I think that will be a great experience for them.
We're having family baking day on Sunday and I have no idea what to bring. I'm making chocolate cookies with peanut butter/chocolate chips, but that's it so far. And those are honestly just for DH.
Any suggestions on candy/cookies that aren't putzy and awful, but are still festive? I thought about peppermint bark. There's a recipe on the Philsophy shower gel I've been using....I'm pretty sure I shouldn't admit I'm thinking of taking a recipe off a shower gel....
I am recovering from a self induced panic attack that lead to an OCD attack, or vice versa. Yesterday, I was putting away clean dishes and starting the water for dirty dishes. I put a casserole dish in the cabinet, but it slid out onto the countertop and shattered right over Vader's head. Glass was in his hair, on his shirt, all over the kitchen. I got the mess cleaned up, but it left me shaky the rest of the day, had he been facing the counter he would have gotten glass in his face- or had the dish not hit my arm on the way down, you know?Scared the shit out of me. On the upside, my kitchen is probably the safest place in my house right now.
@melody921 I've had that happen with them before. Luckily they didn't see it, but I remember thinking "WTF?"
@indigovader That would scare me too! Glad he's ok!
I'm at work. I have nothing to do and the internet is down. In other news, I'm already tired of doing direct sales. I feel like I'm that annoying person everyone avoids. I don't think I have thick enough skin to be as pushy as I should to be successful.

DH wants to start next year with Nancy doing that program where kids give toys to other kids? I don't know anything about it, but he's been researching it and it seems like there's a lot of local options. We could have a kids giving toys play date! :-)
Bronchitits can just suck it! I was out last week with this shit. DS has it not to mention an ear infection. He has been sick since September when he started daycare which means I have been sick since September. Will it ever end?

I would take the stance that if you have to pay someone else, she doesn't get paid. I understand if you can take off and still get paid from your job to go ahead and pay her but it isn't fair to you to pay twice for her sick day.

umm i did this.... :-S
i made some chocolate candy cane cookies off one a couple of years ago. they turned out flat as pancakes but they tasted pretty damn good.!

@redneckmomma did you guys do an elective, or what that your normal a/s?
Yes. We paid for an elective u/s at 16w2d. My a/s was last week at 20w5d. It was worth it for me. It was such a laid back fun experience. Plus dh didn't have to take a day off work for it.
is anyone motivated to work at this time of year - i am now trying to decide how many Christmas cards to order. i am a complete slacker.
and completely considering only sending them out to those who send them to us this year!
I ordered two sets of cards this year. An expensive set for close friends and family and a cheap set for attaching to the daycare gifts, neighbor gifts, work friends. We usually do the same card for everyone but since I wanted a more expensive card, this is how I broke down the total cost.

Oreo truffles! So good. Or regular truffles. I love truffles. You could do a regular chocolate bark as well.

I think that is pretty common. James' 4 Wheeler from Wal-Mart was delivered in the original box, picture and all. I had to quickly get it to the garage and covered before he saw it.
I would go with waiting until he asks on Christmas morning and say Santa has to deliver some of the big gifts to the parents early because it doesn't fit down the chimney.

That would be awesome! You'll have to share your DH's research, then I don't have to do it.
I am lacking motivation. We are going to do a quick family picture this weekend. I need to figure out clothes. I'm thinking hard one since nothing fits. A part of me just doesn't care.
I really don't like boy clothes so I find myself not looking or ordering because of price. I'm not paying for stuff I don't like and the stuff I do like is too expensive. I was so spoiled with getting so many hand me downs for G.
I also barely look for anything we need for him like furniture or new bottles, blankets, etc. I dunno. Maybe after Christmas I'll be out of this funk. It's not as if I'm not happy about a boy I guess I'm just not enjoying shopping for him as much as I did and do with g.

I'm going to be a total jackass, and I apologize. Pretty much all big items have a warning on them that they will not be boxed and that the package will be visible. I checked TRU website. It doesn't have the warning on it right now because it's not available for shipment, but similar items have the warning.
I had a dumb netbattle with a stranger over this last year. For some reason it bugs me. I totally get it, but it still bugs me.

Oh my goodness! How scary! I'm glad he's okay. Hugs! >:D<
@MarisaKathleen what about chocolate covered pretzels? Cheap and easy. Use white chocolate and color it red or green, and/or get some festive sprinkles. Nancy can help!

I'm going to pass this question along to people that actually like to bake I use store bought gingersnaps and just melt the chocolate and crush up candy canes.

Our neighbor had their basketball goal delivered to our house because it was being delivered in the original box. I do think those warnings are easy to miss but it isn't the companies' fault. They shouldn't have to double box big items just in case it is a gift.
I don't know if this is a holiday recipe, but I'm going to a cookie exchange this weekend, so I think I'm going to dip Oreos in some kind of chocolate and then decorate. Something like this:
My coworker is gone again today. We only had to work two days last week and she was gone those days as well as the Friday before that. Complaining is fruitless, but I can't help myself.

That was why I ultimately sucked at direct sales. If people said no thanks, I never pushed.
I recently started working out again (*this* is the time I don't quit lol) and mentioned to H that I needed a little inspiration. So every day he has decided to change our computer background to some floozie who looks better than I do. I *think* he has good intentions, as he explained he was just giving me 'fitspiration', but the whole thing makes me want to smack him. When I said I needed inspiration, I was thinking a new pair of running shoes...
TN had a deadly school bus crash yesterday and I am a bitter betty about it today. I don't know the costs for getting seat belts put on school buses but I would much rather my kid have a seat belt than a school issued ipad.
