Hello all,
Getting ready to TTC Baby #3, and I'm currently with HV at Chestnut Hill. They highly encourage midwifery, and I was curious if anyone has experience with this particular practice.
Thanks!
I can't speak to that practice (I am a patient at the Wellesley practice), but we went to their Meet the Midwives event at Newton Wellesley last night, and are very comfortable with our decision to use HVMA.
A couple of highlights from last night that we like:
High vaginal birth rates (I think it was 91% for those who haven't had a previous cesarean, around 60% for VBACs). Newton Wellesley Hosptial has a pretty high cesarean rate, so this was reassuring.
Positive attitudes about medicated and unmedicated childbirth (I believe 65% of their patients get an epidural, which leads me to believe they're very good at being supportive of your decision either way).
I think these numbers are a little skewed towards those with healthy, lower risk pregnancies - the midwifery team does not handle cesareans, and if your baby is breach, you'll automatically be having a cesarean with a physician (and I'm sure there are plenty of other examples where specific risks take you out of the pool their statistics are coming from). But they also highlighted that you do not risk out of the midwifery practice, since there are always physicians available as well.
This is our first. I'm generally satisfied with the care I've received from HVMA (maternity, primary, and specialty). Their online patient portal is great for communicating and reviewing test results on your own time, and the availability of urgent care has also been great (they've called in perscriptions based on test results that came in over the weekend, and got me in for xrays over a weekend when I sprained my ankle and couldn't walk at all - much better than a trip to the ER). I'm fairly sure we'll continue using them for pediatrics.
Great info! Thanks, @DM718! Yes, I really love their online portal. My communication with my GCP, Midwife, and MFM specialist up to this point has been incredible. Glad to hear about their good record, as well.
@DM718, I was at the Meet the Midwives at NWH that night as well, and echo all your points. I'm currently at the HV PO Square location and I have had nothing but positive experiences.
