Told my kiddos today...

I teach junior high math, and my morning got off on the complete wrong foot. I had meetings at 6:30 and 7:30 this morning, and didn't feel prepared at all. So when my conference came before my classes started, I decided today would be the day. I found this cute activity on teacher pay teacher that lets the students find out I'm pregnant. It was very basic multiplication with a decoder to determine what letters represented each number.

Watching the kids solve the puzzle, and then seeing it click was hilarious. Their reactions were absolutely priceless.

I had meant to wait until after my next appointment, but I caved. Maybe my kids will act right before Christmas break. One can hope, right?

Any of you teachers tell or plan to tell your students in a fun way? The activity I used also had a copy with basic addition!

  • I teach K-3 Spanish, but since they are younger I think I will wait until I'm showing or At least after Christmas. My anatomy scan is the 22nd, so I would feel better telling Everyone then, anyway.
  • I played hangman with my second graders for a similar reason (I was hoping they'd act right). Instead they may be worse! At least there is a contingent of good kids that keep yelling "what about the baby?!" At the bad ones!

  • What an awesome way to surprise them! So sweet!
  • I told the kids yesterday too! I told them we were taking a group picture for the newsletter and I said "Smile and say Mrs. "darvo"'s pregnant!" It was pretty hilarious. The picture will be in Friday's newsletter.

A kinder baby, one of my kid's siblings, came up to me today and said "Are you really pregnant? Because you look so skinny!" So cute.
  • That was a really cute idea!
  • Aw those are all cute ideas!
  • Love all these ideas for sure. I told my students Monday. There have been a ton asking....I'm really short and I guess look pregnant plus I've been very sick. We shared about our thanksgiving breaks and they like to have me shared at the end. I shared how my husband and I told our family we are going to have a baby. The kids are all so happy. The sweetest 7th grader cried-been a student of mine for 3 yrs! It was so fun telling them!
  • I teach 8th grade and one of my students called me out today after noticing a bump. I just said yes when she asked so naturally the entire class erupted with excitement and cheers. For the most part they handled it well until on of my most loved yelled (in her best 'turn up' voice) "Ms. --- is gettin it in!!!" to even more cheers. Haha half funny, half made me want to crawl in a hole.
  • Told my 8th graders yesterday. They were mostly very sweet, had some weirdo's & some WHAT ARE YOU HAVING? Haha
    A baby.
  • I haven't told my first graders yet, I'm thinking before break I will. I have some little girls that are very buggy, and are noticing I'm getting a little bigger. I saw a cute letter the "baby" wrote to the class, and there is a picture book to read to them. I'm excited to share the news!!!
  • I love that tpt idea! I'm telling my kids right after Christmas break. Not sure how 6th graders will react. I'm more worried about word getting out before I can tell all my kids
