TTC after 35

New to posting (and nervous!)

I've been reading through some of the posts and everyone here seems very nice and welcoming; however, I still feel nervous about posting - it's my first time posting in this community. I'm 35 and my DH is (almost) 32. I stopped taking the pill in October, so we have been ttc for a little over a month. We have decided (at least for now) to not tell anyone that we are ttc. I've never given it much thought before, but I am most concerned about being able to conceive. From everything I've read, it seems like everyone has a different reaction to stopping bc. I felt really sick when I stopped taking it, but felt better in the following few weeks. Now AF is due today (I think!) and I have been feeling sick/nauseous for the past three days with cramping and lightheaded. Did anyone else experience this coming off of bc? Any suggestions on what to do to lessen these symptoms?

Re: New to posting (and nervous!)

  • Welcome!  I'm sorry you're not feeling well.  I didn't actually experience that, so I have no advice but hope it goes away soon.  As you probably know from reading through the posts, it would probably be good to start temping/charting, at least for a few cycles, so you can have a better idea of where you are in your cycle and what's going on.

    Good luck!

  • Welcome!  It's been so long since I took bc I don't think I can offer any insight.  I will however agree w pp regarding if you are really ready ttc then read Taking Charge Of Your Fertility and look into fertilityfriend and learn about charting your cycle so you can notice your fertility signs to ensure you are timing intercourse well.  Best wishes- don't be nervous we are all really friendly, always supportive, sometimes funny and  quite informational!
  • Hi and welcome. You didn''t mention if you've tested seeing as your period is due today, so I'm crossing fingers for you that it could be  BFP this cycle.

If it's not, the other ladies gave great advice about charting.

    Best wishes to you!

  • It's been such a long time since I took bc that I really don't remember how I felt when I came off of it.  Sorry that I can't be of any help with that.

As pp's said, the best thing you can do is start charting and temping so that you know when you ovulate.  This has really helped me to understand/know my body much better.

    Welcome and good luck!

  • Welcome and best of luck to you!  I hope you get your BFP very soon.  Every time I come off birth control, I get horrible, migraine-like headaches and then nausea from the headache.  I think everyone is different in how the respond to stopping that type of hormone.  I hope you feel better soon!  :)

  • just wanted to say hi and welcome. I haven't been on bc in forever so I'm not sure how my body would react to it, but the "lack" of hormones I'd imagine could cause some of the symptoms you're mentioning. It could also mean you're already pregnant?!

  • Welcome and good luck! When I came off birth control the first time we got lucky and got pregnant right away. This time trying for #2 its been a lot more challenging. So Im crossing my fingers for you and that you have a good amount of beginners luck and get a BFP right away! Hope you feel better soon :-)
  • Welcome. I would like to echo the advice to temp and chart if you are not already doing so. This is a great community.

  • Welcome!
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
  • Welcome! Sometimes I feel I'll of day one or two of BCPs but it quickly goes away.
  • Welcome! I get nausea with af off or not. Also got it when I got off Provera so I think my body just reacts that way to the progesterone in general. Best of luck to you.

Off Mirena Nov 2013, On Nuvaring end of Jan, Back off Sept 2014.  Never ending cycle starting end of Sept...
    11/14 Provera failed... cycle continues
12/14 High FSH (57 "midcycle")  OBGYN had no clue... about anything
01/15 More lab results coming back from RE. U/S showed small (1")cyst on left ovary, thin lining, and couldn't locate right ovary so  possibly straight to DE and IVF

Occassionally mess with the chart below to see "what if" and learn (not to make it pretty but because FF stays drunk with me).

  • I was on Depo Provera before TTC and it took a few months for AF to start again, but once it did I had migraines and the first couple of cycles felt like a year's worth of cramps and back pain all piled into one week. Hopefully it's a BFP already! If not, your body will adjust to the change in hormones and hopefully you won't feel symptoms for long from stopping the BCPS.
  • I took a PT yesterday morning and it was a BFN :(

Looks like I'll just have to wait it out for AF - whenever she decides to show up!
