Moving to a bed ... help!

So we decided to move DS to a bed in his big boy room shortly after the holidays in preparation for baby coming in early March. Can you suggest anything that worked for you during the transition, or anything you wish you hadn't done? He'll be 2 in March, so a couple months shy of 2 when we start this. He sleeps on a cot at daycare and is very compliant about not getting out of bed until they give the OK, but of course that's not when he's all alone in his room with nobody reminding him to make good choices. With our oldest we just moved him straight to a twin bed. We put a railing on for a week and after that he was fine. We did buy new sheets, new bedtime books and fun covers. We also used a bribery system to keep him in bed. we told him if he stayed there he would earn coins to buy big boy toys If he is used to it at daycare hopefully that will help it out at home too!

We made the move at 14mo since the crib was a tantrum place. We had to get her out of our bed. 

We just did a twin mattress on the floor. Her room is carpeted. She moves a lot in her sleep and sometimes I will see her on the monitor in the middle of the floor totally asleep!

I transitioned her from our bed by sleeping with her for a week or so, then sneaking out.

In your case, talk it up! Maybe put it in his room and read, cuddle, and wait a week before actually putting him to sleep in it? Fun sheets are a must!
