Tested positive for leukocyte esterase ua

I been having pain in my left uterus side like a pulsation. I went to the doctor and they did a urinalysis test. The results came back and I tested positive for leukocyte esterase ua.
I do not understand what this means. I am 20.1 weeks pregnant .
Has anybody dealt with this before ?

If you want to do something in the meantime (before doc calls), sip on some 100% cranberry juice and stay hydrated.

Uti like pp have said. But wait for your doctor before you believe our diagnosis.

What did the urine micro say? Leukocytes are a byproduct of bacteria. Your urine should be sterile and free of Leukocytes. So having them present is showing you have a UTI. Your doc should call you in an antibiotic soon.

I could not see the microscopic portion of the results. If it is just Leukocytes it may be contamination from vaginal bacteria if the urine touch the vagina while collecting it. Usually with a UTi you will test positive for leukocytes, blood, and nitrates at the same time. The microscopic portion of the test will tell you what type of bacteria is in the urine and if it is infact a UTI or contamination.

They have not called me yet . I am hoping to hear from them soon. I just hate this waiting.

I googled. Sounds like a urinary tract infection. I'd call the dr in the morning.

Don't worry about it. It's an indicator of a uti. Call the dr if you are worried.

@angi30‌ totally agree. Now that they can email you results or have patient portals there really ought to be a "average person terminology" column.
