June 2014 Moms

***Born to Run JuneBugs 12/1***

This is a weekly thread for runners who were due June 2014, that is posted on Mondays . All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. We had this thread during pregnancy, now it's time to lose that baby weight.

Happy Monday ladies!

How were your runs and workouts this week?

What are your plans for health/fitness this week?

GTKY: Have you ever fallen prey to a fitness/diet fad? Which one? On the flipside, anyone try any fitness or nutrition routines that could be considered fads but actually worked for you?

  • How were your runs and workouts this week? Pretty good! I was in Florida visiting family last week and I managed to get in 3 runs and 1 strength workout. DH & I did a 4-mile Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning which was so much fun! I've never done a Turkey Trot before but will definitely be bringing LO in the stroller next year and making it a tradition. :)

What are your plans for health/fitness this week? This week I need to get back to business on my diet especially. I totalllly went overboard while I was on vacation and I'm kicking myself for it now. DH & I have a strength workout planned for tonight after work but I tweaked my shoulder shooting guns with my hillbilly family so I need to be careful. ;)

GTKY: Have you ever fallen prey to a fitness/diet fad? Which one? On the flipside, anyone try any fitness or nutrition routines that could be considered fads but actually worked for you? I wouldn't say I have really done any fitness/workout fads (besides Tae Bo when I was like 12 lol but that was more for fun than anything) but when DH started doing crossfit we switched to a Paleo diet. It wasn't a fad so much as it was just too big of a change for us to make all at once. Now we eat a more balanced, "real food" based diet and that has yielded much better results for us. We just focus on lean meats and vegetables (basically, if it's from the earth we eat it, if it's processed we don't... within reason, of course). It's much less stressful than obsessing over whether something was cooked in coconut oil or not.

  • Runs/workouts--
Totally late this week as life has been getting in the way. Managed 4 insanity workouts and did strength training with a PT on Sunday.

    Goals--
One more session of strength training session in place of insanity. We are heading to Florida to visit relatives last minute so that will throw things off this week for sure, but hopefully walk lots while there!

    Fad diets--
I vaguely remember trying the 17 day diet with my friends once. From what I remember there were lots of rules and it really only temporarily sheds water weight. Now like others have said we try to stick to what is from the ground and ingredients we recognize and avoid processed. We generally allow ourselves a cheat meal on Sunday's and candy! Mmmm. Gives me something to look forward to to survive the week!
