I switched jobs this past summer due to the fact that the campus that I was located on was closing down because of budget cuts. I probably would not have lost my job, but I was pretty sure that I would have to go back commuting an hour and a half each way to the main campus. My supervisor at the time could not give me any clarity on when/if I would have to move back to the main campus, if I could have any flexibility working from home, or if my job was actually secure. There was a lot of transition and several people were leaving the company, so I felt like the best thing would be to look elsewhere. I did not dislike my job at all- I was just scared that I may have to commute again as I had previously done for years before I had been transferred. I did look and I was lucky to find a job very close to home that allows me somewhat of a flexible schedule. That being said, I do not love this job and often miss working for my old company. Anyways, I went out to brunch with a few friends from my old job yesterday and they let me know that my coworker from the satellite campus had been given the benefit of working from home 4 days a week and only commuting once a week. It bummed me out to hear that as I wonder if they would have granted me the same type of schedule if I would have held on a little longer. I guess that I'll never know, but still, it just makes me wonder if I should not have been so quick to jump ship. Just needed to get that out
