Give me your best job hunting tips!

So my work has become populated with residents of CrazyTown as of late, complete with adult temper tantrums, screaming matches in the hallways, senior staff making junior staff CRY... senior leadership seems willing to let this continue, so I've decided that it's time to go. I've updated my profile on LinkedIn. I've been trying to link with headhunters as well. I've been looking online, but I don't think much is published at my level. I'm ~17 years into my career, and report to the head of marketing for a fortune 100 company. I'm willing to take a step back for the right opportunity. I havent looked rigorously for a job in 13 years, so I'm a bit out of practice. I've been networking with consultants that I trust in the industry, but so far, that's not enough. Any tips you can give would be much appreciated!

  • At your level you need to work with a good headhunter.  I would go to those that you have used for hiring in the past that you liked working with.  Even if they place in your company they can still place you in another job as long as you call them and they did not pursue you.

Thank you! I wasn't sure of the rules there, so that's great to know.

  • You do not need to worry about them ratting you out either, unless you think someone happens to be BFF's with your boss or something like that outside of work.  It is in their best interest to keep it confidential as well.

  • That is a good tip. I get contacted by recruiters via Linked In all the time.
