Trigger shot questions

Hi ladies...I had my mid-cycle check yesterday, and we found out I have one dominant follicle at 20mm (yay! Femara might've worked!) and that my lining was at 7mm. The RE told me that if I don't have a +opk by Thursday, I will fill my prescription and come in to get my trigger shot. She prescribed me 10,000 iu of Novarel.

Has anyone taken this? If so, do you remember how much it was? I know insurances are different, but just curious. Also, Thursday will be cd16, and I'm wondering why we are triggering....will my body not release on its own? This is my first round doing this, so just looking for some advice!! TIA!

ETA-We are not doing IUI this cycle, only TI.

Re: Trigger shot questions

  • Trigger shots usually run about $100-125 without insurance. The shot forces the release of the egg. I always did trigger shots for medicated cycles, never OPKs.

Do you remember when you normally triggered? Was it a certain cycle day or particular size of the follicle? Thanks!

  • I trigger when I had a mature follie and I already had an LH surge based on a lab draw.  My RE felt that the trigger helped make the uterus a better environment for implantation.  My lining was also thin (it was 7.5) so he started me on vaginal estrace to try to improve that.

A certain follicle size (CD can vary widely) usually 18-22mm depending on whether they wanted to give a second follie a chance to catch up.

Thanks, ladies. I'm only on cd13, so I guess we will wait and see what happens by Thursday.

One more thing...when you order a trigger shot, does it come with just enough for one, or are there multiple shots in a vial?

That 10,000 iu is 1 shot. It's mixed with 1cc(mL) of fluid and injected. Mine had me do it SubQ instead of IM.

Did you ask to have them administer it? There's no reason that you would need to go in unless you are more comfortable having them do it.

They want me to come in Thursday to have it administered if I don't surge before then. I'm really considering not having the Rx filled this go around. That's so much money to do every cycle!! Ugh!
