Uterine fibroids while pregnant?

Hey ladies - anyone else managing a uterine fibroid while pregnant? I just found out I have one the size of a golf ball a few months ago after a miscarriage. I am currently 8 wks pregnant but feels like more because of my fibroid! Hope the baby's growing more than the fibroid ... [-O<

I have two fibroids and this is my second pregnancy. Last time I was pregnant the Dr. monitored to make sure the pregnancy hormones didn't cause the fibroids to grow (for me they didn't). My Dr has emphasized to me they can be more of a concern towards the end of pregnancy with some risk of pre-term labor. I carried to term last time.

I have some fibroids discovered during my last pregnancy.  The size was only slightly concerning (I think they were both under 2.5 and on the outside of my uterus.  I was basically supposed to just alert them if I started feeling any pain and then they'd perform an ultrasound to check for further growth.

I have an anterior fibroid that I'm worried about. I plan to discuss with my OB during my first U/S. I don't think there is much she can do about it but knowing the location and the growth trajectory is probably important.

Very common. Many women actually have fibroids prior to pregnancy but as your average woman does not have transvaginal ultrasounds done during the gyno exams - they go undetected. varying hormone levels often cause them to grow during pregnancy. Most women as the pregnancy progresses they will subside or at least not grow as rapidly once the hcg levels start evening out.

Your OB will advise you for signs to watch for but basically you want to keep an eye out for significant pain (prior to your due date obviously) and you might expect to appear larger depending on where the fibroid is located. Most of the time - pregnancies go completely as per normal despite these hitchhikers.

We found two during a Sono-HSG during my IVF treatment.  One shouldn't be a problem and the other is anterior and "could" be a problem.  I have to discuss it with my OB today, actually, as I've had some concerns about it growing.
