Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Period after M/C

Hi ladies,

Has anyone gotten their period before the HcG levels went back down to < 5? I miscarried about 3.5 weeks ago (Nov 4th) and stopped the bleeding after about 10ish days. However, I have been spotting the last few days. The colour is a dark brownish/red. I don't know if it's my period or just old blood that is coming out (sorry to be graphic). I am thinking it's NOT my period since it's only been 3.5 weeks since my miscarriage. Has this happened to anyone?

Re: Period after M/C

  • @BlueJoan thanks! I am thinking it's old blood too. My HcG levels were at 20 last week so I have to go one more time for blood work. But I am not sure if it's possible to get a period before your levels are back down.

  • I had some random spotting before my levels went down as well. It happened to be old blood but if you're concerned you may want to call your Dr to see what they say.
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • My period took exactly 6 weeks to arrive xxx hang in the ladies xxx thinking of you all xxx
  • Hi ladies! Thanks for all your advice. My levels were 20 as of last week. So I am eager to get my period (I don't think I have ever said that before).

@tamlynd...was it 6 weeks from the first day you started miscarrying or the last day you stopped bleeding? (sorry if that's a silly question!)
  • I wish I had some advice but I'm going through the same thing right now. I'm curious to see what everyone says. On the 4th I started miscarrying and my levels were a 6 on the 13th. Last Friday I started having some brown spotting. It is still happening and sometimes heavier. No clue if it's my period or not.
  • @Sthines312 oh wow...your levels went down pretty quickly. I hope mine are back down next week when I go. It'll be 4 weeks that I miscarried.
  • So I ended up getting my period yesterday. Tomorrow will mark 5 weeks since my m/c. Asked my doctor about trying to conceive again and she said best to wait two cycles. Because I was 10 weeks when I miscarried, my uterus could still be trying to adjust back to normal size. I was spotting for about 1.5 weeks just now and now I know for sure it's my period.
  • @BlueJoan I know my doctor told me to wait at least two cycles but I am sooo eager to start trying again. I am debating whether to try after the one cycle or just wait till the second one is over. I have a friend who M/C and her and her husband are just gonna see what happens. She isn't going to wait to have her first period. I'm just so frustrated!
    :-S
  • @mylittlegemini‌ I can understand you wanting to try again but I would really recommend listening to your Dr. Do you want to risk something happening if you try early?

Just step back and think about it before going against your Dr. I know it's hard *hug*

  • I just wanted to say that all of your advice has helped me greatly! I just saw my doctor, a week after the procedure, and she said to wait one month. That seems like not enough time for my body to reset...I was at 13.5 weeks just last week when I had my d&c. Your advice to give your body time to adjust makes sense to me. So thanks everyone!
  • I did some thinking and as much as I hate to have to wait, I will probably wait the two cycles like my doctor suggested. I would hate myself if heaven forbid something were to happen and I didn't listen to my doctor. I am just so impatient and the loss has made me feel empty. The holidays don't help either. :-( Ugh!
  • @CMDD if you aren't ready after a month, don't feel like you HAVE to. It's just as important that you are ready mentally as it is physically.

@mylittlegemini I think that is a very smart thing to do. I couldn't imagine not listening to my Dr and if something happened I would question if it was my fault or not. Take this time to breath and prepare yourself for when you TTC again. Good luck!

  • Hi everyone. I miscarried on the 4th - I was 5 weeks and 5 days - and on Monday the bleeding slowed to brown spotting and my hcg has dropped to 92 (from 399 on Friday). Today, just a week after the miscarriage, it's bright red, almost dripping and in full force w some cramping. Has anyone experienced this? I'm waiting to hear from my doctor.
  • Thanks @agpjt413‌

I'm sorry to hear that and hugs to you as well.
  • I had something similar happen. I hope it ends for you soon *hug*
