Cloth Diapering

Homemade wipe solution

I'm ready to delve into cloth wipes, just need to make up a butt wash. Anyone got a good recipe? I was going to go with a oil/baby shampoo/ water mix, but saw mention that it could cause repelling.

Side question - best way to rinse wipes before washing? Dunk? Spray?

Thanks :)

Re: Homemade wipe solution

  • @Mapleme‌ i initially was going to go with just water, but the interwebs seemed insistent that you need a soap and something slick to get a good clean. But obviously it's working fine for you, so maybe I should rethink.

  • I saw a recipe that was baby soap, witch hazel and water. There wasn't measurements, sorry.

  • We do a baby soap, coconut oil, water mix at home. Just water when we are out.

  • I mix a dash of witch hazel and a pre-made wipes solution with (filtered, boiled) water. The product I use seems to have been discontinued, but it's got jojoba oil, aloe vera oil, emu oil, tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, orange EO, grapefruit seed extract, and chamomile EO. Just a couple drops of that blend with about 2 cups of water. It smells nice, and I like to think that the tiny bit of oil in there makes the solution slightly less drying than plain water. And I'm only halfway through the one bottle after 2+ years of using it for my cloth wipes, so it's no surprise that the company that made it wasn't selling a ton of it. I might try to make my own blend based on this, if I ever run out.
  • I wipe as much of the poop off as I can with toilet paper, then use cloth wipes to clean his butt.
We're using a premade mix by Lusa that you just water down, but when it's gone, we'll probably switch over to plain water.
  • Thanks ladies, water it is!
