Things to do in ATL for anniversary?

Our 5th wedding anniversary is coming up December 18th.
We didn't have a honeymoon, and we've never had a getaway of any kind alone, so we are tossing around the idea to plan an overnight getaway for just the two of us.

We already have childcare squared away for the weekend, but we have no idea what to do.

We don't want to go too far, so Atlanta is ideal.

After a bit of research, I'm wanting to go to the High Museum of Art. That's the kind of thing I like (when it's cold outside).
We also like natural attractions or historical sites.

So does anybody have recommendations for things to do in or around Atlanta? Restaurants? Places to stay?
TIA!

  • I love the botanical gardens at Christmas. Groupon usually has some good deals on hotels and weekend packages too

  • The Botanical Gardens at Christmas is awesome but if you want to see the lights, it's only in the evenings (duh) and you have to book online ahead.  Don't think you can show up to buy a ticket b/c it will most likely be sold out, it's crazy.  Also agreed that the Fox would be a great option!  I'm not a museum person but the High is good of course if you are.  Those three things are all pretty close together.  (You'll still want to drive maybe, but they are all in Midtown.)  What kinds of food/pricing are you looking for in terms of restaurants?  Also, anything in particular close to any of the attractions?
