Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone else had this kind of leg/hip pain?

Since Wed. night I have been getting what I would describe as a "pinching" pain in the front of my left hip which then sends a bad pain down my leg. It is worse when I am sitting or pull my leg up. I have an appointment on Monday so I will be asking about what could be causing it then, but I just thought I'd see if any of you have had a similar experience.

Re: Anyone else had this kind of leg/hip pain?

  • I had it when I was pg with my son. So bad sometimes, it hurt to drive. (The act of raising my foot to go from gas to brake) I was "prescribed" a belly support band that was covered by my insurance. It was a little uncomfortable to wear, but it definitely seemed to help. Sometimes, I only needed to wear it at night and it helped. And then eventually the pain went away.
Good luck to you! I hope you get some answers Monday, and some relief sooner!

  • Thanks so much, the first time it happened it scared me because it hurt so bad, but then it went away and I felt fine. Hopefully my doctor can give me some answers.

  • I lost my right leg a few years ago and have that same pain in my left hip. I figured that the pain was related to being one-legged but apparently it is pregnancy hormone related. Hormones make your joints all wonky (and I'm sure that is the correct medical terminology) so that they can adjust for the baby weight. This is my simplified understanding of the situation.

Someone on the third trimester board was complaining of severe hip pain and one of the responders suggested a hip brace sold through Amazon. I bought it that day and have been using it every night while sleeping and my hip pain is gone! It is so awesome! It is $20. I can look up the brand for you if you are interested.

  • I have actually been having this pain as well. I stopped sleeping on my right side and try to only stay on my left side which seems to be helping. From what I read and what my OB says it's totally normal although if it gets severe I'm sure they can prescribe you a brace like pp have mentioned.

  • I also have a shooting pain in the front of my leg, but it starts more toward the inner thigh. Sometimes it is agonizing. It always goes away quickly though. I had it checked out and the diagnosis was: pregnancy and leg pain. Hilarious, right? @misternmiss I'm interested to hear the belly support band helped. I hadn't thought of trying that. I'm just 2 weeks away from due date now, so I'll have to decide if I want to get one anyway...

  • I had this with DS around 24 weeks and it's already started with this pregnancy at 16.5 weeks. It was so bad with DS I had to crawl on my hands and knees and I'm just praying it doesn't get worse this time. It's in the back side of my inner right hip. My uncle is a chiropractor and he explained it like footprint did. Apparently hormones make your ligaments relax and your hip joints aren't as secure to make room for baby. It lasted about 3 or 4 weeks with DS.

  • Thanks for everyone's input! My OB said that it could be the sciatic nerve, but she's not sure since the pain is in the front of my leg and pain from the sciatic nerve is usually in the back, but she said it is probably the baby just pushing on a nerve that is causing the pain. She suggested doing some stretching, but other than that said there is not much I can do to help it unfortunately.
