Pregnant after a Loss

next steps after Ectopic Pregnacy

hello gang,
I posted previously that I had emergency surgery last Friday for EP. The last 7 days has been straight hell of lots of bleeding, cramping, and emotional distress. Today was the first day I have started to feel better and able to cope with my thoughts.

My next OB follow up is not until two weeks and please note that I do not plan to TTC or rush my healing in any way, I am just looking for some positive imput

Following your EP what tests did you get done, if any at all? I have heard of the HSG test and it sounds promising.

- did anyone jump the gun and move right to a specialist?

It took us 8 long months to get pregnant and then have the EP happen. I am almost thinking of Clomid as well, to see if that will help with TTC.

Besides for healing and taking care of myself I am just looking for some guidance... Following EP what did you have done, tests.. Etc to help guide me into TTC again.

I can't wait to tak to my doc. I have so many questions and concerns.

I had partial tube removal and not sure if that means the tube will grow back/be healthy again later down the road... Ugh I just wish the next two weeks to go by fast so I can talk to my OB.

Any advice is better than none. Please note I am not trying to be "Mr. Google• just looking for some follow up steps

Thanks!
Megan

Hi-I responded to your PM and answered most of these questions for you. Did you get it? If you have more questions that I can answer, please let me know!

The only things I wanted to add are:
~ my understanding is any removed part will not grow back.
~ Having an HSG is usually recommended following an EP because there could be physical reasons why you had an EP in the 1st place. In my case, the HSG and SHG were clear. Therefore, the REs I saw said either my uterus wasn't completely healed following my D&C and the embryo had to find a different place to implant OR there could've been a blockage in my damaged tube that the opposite tube didn't have.
~If you are serious about considering TTC with medicated cycles like clomid, you really should see an RE and be properly monitored.

I would definitely ask your Dr about having an HSG done before TTC again. You don't HAVE to go to an RE for that, but if one is available to you for a consult, why not?

  • I would definitely get an RE if you are going to be using clomid. Also 100% recommend getting and hsg before ttc again as you will want that peace of mind in knowing your other tube is healthy and if it's not at least you can discuss your options with the RE rather then ttc with a higer change of another ectopic. In my case my other tube wasn't affected and did not impact my fertility and I am hoping the same outcome happens for you! Good luck ((hugs))

  • Thank you @Danielle0311‌!! I have been doing some research on theHSG test and found that severs females after taking the test became the most fertile and conceived :)

  • After my ectopic, my OB didn't want to do any testing. The office I go to has a strict "3 losses in a row before testing" philosophy. I almost tried to bypass them and see a specialist on my own (or at least attempt it) but after my 3 months of mandatory waiting before TTC were over, we decided to chart for a couple of cycles without TTC. I discovered that I only had an 8 day luteal phase, so I met with my dr and she agreed to progesterone supplements. I got pregnant with my rainbow baby that month. I wouldn't jump to a serious and complicated drug like Clomid unless your doctor believes it is necessary for you and you are being closely monitored. HUGS and I am glad you are starting to feel better.
I would echo what @bananaboat05 about waiting to start interventions until you know they are medically warranted. I absolutely understand the instinct, and it is what I felt after my 2nd loss, but I would talk through the pros and cons with your OB first (it sounds like this is your plan). It was hard for me to accept at first that not intervening might be the safest, best option for us based on what we knew, but it was true for us. I hope your OB has reassuring information for you. Big hugs!
