Baby will not sleep! need advice!

I know there have been a lot of sleep posts recently and debate about a 4 month sleep regression but my baby is sleeping so terribly that I am running on fumes here. He is 16 weeks old. Was sleeping 5-7 hour stretches then waking to nurse then sleeping another 4 for about a month. Now he wakes up every hour and a half to two hours consistently every night for the past 2 weeks. At first I thought it was a growth spurt because every time he wakes he is super hungry but I thought those were only supposed to last a few days. I am dying here! Any tips on how to get him to sleep better? Or be fuller so he sleeps longer? He is eating every 2 hours during the day too and I don't think I have a supply issue. I have always had the opposite problem. Thanks in advance!

  • Thank you! And thanks for those links! That's helpful I will definitely be reading all of that!

  • I'm going through this too. It seems 10x worse now because I'm back working and have been on call. It's almost comical that at 4am DS wakes up crying and then my phone rings at the exact same time b/c something is crash and burning at work. FML.
I'll be busy for the next hour reading other posts on sleep regression and the links @theteno supplied.

  • Omg me too! And when I finally got her down last night my boyfriend knocks on the window loudly because he forgot his keys! I was livid! It's tough will read the links and hope it helps!
  • We just went through this... It started at 11 wks right after I went back to work. Went from sleeping 6-9hr stretches to 2-3 times overnight and peaked last weekend when he was waking every 45-90 minutes (all the while his naps went from 1.5-2.5 hours to 20-40 minutes!!). And in the fact that DH was on a trip and I was sick... It was brutal!! All of the sudden Monday night he did a 4hr stretch followed by a 3 hr. Then he added a 2.5 hr nap the next day... He has been giving us two decent stretches all week plus having that long nap (moved in with the shirt ones)... Nothing changed, I guess he was just ready to move on and grow out of the phase. There is hope but unfortunately not good advice as nothing we tried seemed to make a difference until he was ready. Oh the he surprised me Wednesday night by not wanting to snuggle to sleep like always, so I laid him in his crib and he rolled around for a few mins before going to sleep on his own. This is not the same screaming bit sleeping baby I had last week.

  • There is a thing called the 4 month wakeful. Babies go through a big change and are well aware of the world around them.
  • Thank you @Kandreas1‌ for that link! I'm definitely going to spend some time reading that!
And thanks everyone for your input. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this no sleep nightmare!
  • Im about to start sleep training the LO... waking up every 2 hours at night after only a 4-5 hour stretch at night when we used to get 6. I think maybe the Ferber method... comforting and extending time of comfort each visit during the night. Ill start when I get back from my work trip this week. We all need more sleep soon!!! please share successes! I have a BF baby who also eats formula when needed.
  • I let my LO develop her own routine since birth, it's not working anymore. I've decided no sleeping past 9am and no sleep past 5pm. Last night she slept from 8pm-8:50am with two wake up just for feedings so I got some zzzzs but today she has catnapped no longer than 15 min and just crying crying crying. She is sooo tired...
  • My pedi mentioned introducing rice cereal at 4 months (still almost a whole month away for us). It may help with going to sleep easier and sleeping longer. It could be worth a call to the peds office.
