Contractions when belly is prodded

Every time they try to get a fundal height or check the baby's position I get a contraction and they have to wait for it to relax before they can check. I'm curious if other people also tend to get contractions when their belly is prodded. It happened to me during my last pregnancy too.

Re: Contractions when belly is prodded

  • Laying on my back instead of my sides makes my ute contract.

  • Yup. They tell me I have an irritable uterus.

  • I thought I felt my first contraction on the left side if my stomach today. Is that possible? I thought contractions happen only in the back and lower abdomen.

I don't really feel my contractions in my back. I feel them mostly in my upper abdomen accompanied by lots of pelvic pressure. My entire uterus balls up and gets super tight and really hard.

The back pain ones are the real ones, I am told. My BH contractions are more like my belly turns rock hard. It's uncomfortable but not painful.

Never heard of one side... Only similar feeling I have is when my LO wedges his little butt into my side - it's uncomfortable, and feels like an apple under my skin pressing out, and I can also usually feel him pushing down on my pelvis at the same time. That's not a contraction but just baby moving around.

I never had back pain with my contractions from my daughter's pregnancy. I think some people can have back labor pains but not everyone does.

  • This happens to me, too, and my doctor says it's normal. I also have some BH that are only on one side and she says this is normal too, but she doesn't really "count" them as far as labor contractions go.

  • I feel mine more on the upper half of my belly - my LO sits really high and my lower stomach has a few extra inches of tummy roll/love handle/hibernation layer which mask the hardness.

I usually get them if I'm sitting in an uncomfortable position for too long (usually on my back).
