3rd Trimester

Sudden inactive baby

Im 30 weeks pregnant and so far my baby has been very, very active and on a schedule with her activity. Two days ago, all of a sudden she has been very inactive. I still get the kick counts but it takes a lot longer and sometimes more than one try.

I've been sick the last couple day, cough and cold. Could that have. Something to do with it?

Should I be concerned?

Re: Sudden inactive baby

  • I think it does have something to do with you having a cold. Try drinking orange juice and then laying on your left side-if baby kicks then I wouldn't worry about it. If you have any other symptoms like severe cramping or contractions with bleeding I would either go to the hospital or call my obgyn.

  • Honestly, I'd go in for an NST. Baby's more than likely totally fine if she's meeting kick counts, but you know her movement patterns and if they're different I'd go in for peace of mind. The same thing happened to me and baby was totally fine, but the Dr said to always come in for concerns about movement. Good luck :)

  • I have never made the recommended 10 kicks per hour due to anterior placenta & an access of fluid. But my LO was a lot less active Monday & Tuesday than is normal. I mentioned it at my normal doc appt on Wednesday, even though I HAD felt him on Tues night. They sent me for an NST and everything was fine, but my mind sure was calmed. OP, I try not to be an alarmist, but I recommend calling your doctor. Just think how you would feel if you didn't and there was an issue. I figure better safe than sorry.
