Appendicitis

I have possible appendicitis and have been in the ER since 1am. They haven't been able to visualize the appendix on ultrasound or MRI so they are observing me now to see if my WBC's and pain get worse. OB is following me and so far baby looks ok, but surgery is risky and so is having my appendix rupture. I'm scared and in pain. DH is with me at least but right now it's a waiting game. Some prayers would be nice right about now:( I'm 16 weeks today.

Very scary. However, of all times this could happen during pregnancy, I have been told second trimester is the 'best time'.
My OB is contemplating removing a large ovary cyst within the next few weeks, and he has been all about how weeks 15-20 are the ideal ones if you have to go through surgery.

Anyways, good luck and I hope you guys can get a decision and plan in ace soon. Keep us updated.

FX for you. I had appendicitis on Thanksgiving last year, and had it removed on Black Friday. I can't imagine going through it while pregnant. T&P!

T&p are with you! I Had that and it was so painful. I ended up having sx. I am fx everything it doesn't come to that.

Thanks everyone. I had my appendix out around 11 and I'm resting now. Baby is doing ok for now, they're doing Doppler HB every few hours. I'll be in the hospital for a few days for antibiotics and rest. I really appreciate everyone's support, it means a lot to me.

Wow, what a horrifying and traumatic ordeal. I'm so relieved you and baby made it safely through surgery but it sounds like baby continues to be closely monitored. Keeping you all in my thoughts for a smooth and uneventful recovery for you and your LO, and that you're out of the woods for danger to baby very soon.

I had appendicitis while I was 20 weeks pregnant with my daughter. 

I had my appendix removed after they were able to see it on looking swollen on an ultrasound. They told me that premature labor was a possibility, but I didn't have any problems at all. Baby Charlotte even kicked at the surgeon! They monitored her heartbeat a few times during the surgery and over night. The surgery was done laparoscopically, so I just have three smallish lines on my belly. 

I had to take it easy when I got home and missed two weeks of work. The pain wasn't too bad, so I avoided taking Vicodin once it had been about 48 hours after the surgery because I obviously was upset about all of the things my baby had been exposed to. 

One thing I was very pleased with in regards to my OB was that she insisted that the head of surgery do the operation, and he did an excellent job. My OB's office also pushed hard to make sure that the ER took their suspicions of appendicitis seriously, as I had none of the typical symptoms (fever, refractory pain). 

Good luck!! I hope that they get it out of you quickly and safely! It's no fun but there's no reason that it won't work out well.
