pregnant firefighters?

I was just wondering if anyone is a firefighter that is or has been pregnant. Did you continue to work? How long into pregnancy? Interior? Exterior only? Restrictions?
I haven't told my Chiefs yet. I'm 6 weeks today. I've been to a few fires already since I tested positive. Hubbs doesn't want me to set foot in the firehouse until the baby is born. Help! Advice?

Re: pregnant firefighters?

  • I am a volunteer and continued to run calls while pregnant. Obviously I never made entry on any fires. I ended up mostly driving and pumping, although a few times I was in command. I was a Captain at the time. I also continued to work part time on the ambulance, much to my husband's dismay. I never had to lift the cot and got yelled at if I even touched it. I actually made a fire when I was about 36weeks. I wore a mask and stayed away from the house.

You should definitely speak to your officer and let them know. Also talk to your Dr.
