Mommies who have been in for decreased movement

The mommies who have went in for decreased movement, what did they do when you went in?
Past 2 days have been really lazy days for LO. She went from beating up my insides, to having to nudge and poke to get some movements. That's with laying on my side drinking some cold water, then had a soda to try the caffeine and sugar route. I know the usual advice, and will be calling my mw. I just wanted to know what they typically do if they have you come in?

Re: Mommies who have been in for decreased movement

  • You will likely do a NST (non stress test) to monitor the fetal movement. Not painful or invasive by any means, they strap a couple of things onto your belly to check movement and heartbeat. I think they typically keep it on a minimum of 20/30 min, but could be longer depending on what baby does during the test!

  • I recommend it, for peace of mind. I was doing kick counts like crazy and worrying like a loon. They simply hooked me up to a monitor (two stretchy straps around my belly) and had me hang out for 15 minutes. Baby's hearttrate was recorded as were contractions. All seemed fine and I had some answers. If you're stressed about decreased movement, call and go in!

  • The NST is really easy.  It does give you some peace of mind.  They have you in triage and the things they strap onto your belly monitor fetal heart beat and uterine contractions.  I think the second time I was in (this incident is from last pregnancy) they checked my cervix since I was registering contractions, but with the cervix doing nothing and the contractions not particularly strong and DD1 checked out ok on the test, they sent us home in about a half hour's worth of time or so after getting in the triage room.

  • I just discussed it with my doctor, but I was still getting my 6 movements in 2 hours which is what my doctor wants to see. It ended up that my baby has switched to Frank breech and so now the movements are more subtle then they were because he doesn't have much room to move. If I hadn't had a Dr appointment I would have gone in, a NST will give you piece of mind.
  • I just had a NST done today at my appointment after I mentioned that the baby didn't really move the other day.  All I did was lay there for about 15 minutes with a strap tied to my belly & pressed a button when I felt the baby move.  Dr said the baby was doing great & it really gave me a peace of mind.  Nothing painful, nothing to drink, no blood drawn.  It was actually kinda nice to just lay there and concentrate on the baby's movement while listening to the heart beat.

Also, Dr. said told me to drink milk/soda/something with calories or eat something sweet if baby doesn't react from drinking water or touching the belly.
