Flu Shot

Who got (or is getting) the flu shot?  I usually don't get it, but my doc pretty much insisted at my appointment on Monday.  They said my arm might get sore and it is still sensitive today.  Now I remember why I usually don't get them...

  • It was just a vent/question.  I know it is nothing compared to a lot of other pains.  Just a little surprised it is still sore, that's all.

I'm legitimately curious, I saw in your discussions that you aren't getting your 7 month old a flu shot either. Is your pediatrician ok with this?

I was kinda surprised... when I brought my 2 year old in for hers he asked if she was in day care and I said no, but my nephew who is very close with her (they see each other every day) is in school now so I wanted her to have it. It seemed like he was saying since my husband and I had it and she wasn't in daycare she didn't NEED it, which surprised me.
  • We're in Canada so we just have family doctors and ours is fine with our choice.  It's not the choice he would make but we're the parents.  My husband and I feel that flu shots are not necessary.  It's as simple as that.

With ya here..haven't had a flu shot in years or last pregnancy and won't this time. The reactions on here are pretty entertaining. You'd think we are saying we are going to cut off our heads and hope we don't die.
  • I got the flu shot. My DDs got the flu shot and DH got the flu shot.

It's VERY simple. Go to Safeway, wait about 2 minutes for pharmasist to get it ready, get one tiny little poke. Done. Plus, you get a 10% off coupon to save on your groceries.

Save your life, save your baby's life and save 10%. Everyone wins!

All of this, but we aren't in Canada. Every time my Husband and I or a family member have gotten the flu shot we have gotten the flu, full on. We haven't had the flu shot in years and have been healthy! We will not be getting it either, nor will our babies 2 and 1. Their Dr. is fine with our choice as is mine and they never push us to get something we don't want to get.

Oh also I will not stay locked up in my house. It's not mandatory to get so till it is my family will not be getting it. :)

Some people just don't react well to the shots and perhaps you were getting the live virus shots cause those can make you sick. My husband or daughter don't get the shots either. We also will be out and about lol the only
Reason to stay inside is if you are actively sick.

Right, If my kids are sick we don't take them out. We keep them in the house hopefully in bed.if we get the flu we won't be going out/ or to work. I am a stay at home mom so there is really no need to get it for us. My Husband works in a very small shop that only has 7 employees.

The only reason people get the flu after the shot is because they already contracted the disease prior to. The only live virus immunization for the flu is the nasal spray.
And plus also, getting a cold does not equal the flu.

This is a complete and total lie. People can get sick from various vaccines, just because you fall ill the day after a shot doesn't mean you were sick before you got it. That's just being naive. Obviously it doesn't happen to everyone but it does happen.

The flu shot does NOT have the active virus and cannot give you the flu per the CDC. What are you basing your statement on? Jenny McCarthy's biography?

It used to and the nasal spray does. That's hilarious!

  • we already have too many sticky notes. no one is going to want to be apart of this BMB if we have 2 pages on stickies!
  • if your so sick of them don't open them, you knew what this thread was about. by the title! :)
  • This is ridiculous. The flu shot does not have a live virus. It cannot give you the flu. It protects against predicted strains of Influenza. If you have been exposed to a virus, or the flu, prior to getting the vaccine it is possible to contract said virus or the flu. That's why you are asked about a fever or illness in the week prior. You are not instantly protected from ever getting sick, but you have less risk of getting the flu.

It is your choice to vaccinate or not vaccinate. But remember your choice affects other people.

This is a hot button issue & everyone is entitled to an opinion.

My opinion is science-based, in the medical community.

My husband refuses, but my daughter and I get them. I work in a medical clinic for the elderly population, and my daughter is in daycare.

  • No, you didn't get the flu after the flu shot. You may have gotten norovirus, which many people commonly like to call the flu. Influenza is a respiratory disease and does not make you puke or shit your brains out. That's norovirus, which is a gastro disease. Getting it after a flu shot is completely random. If you ever had influenza you would absolutely get a flu shot.

    Very compelling argument here.
I don't need to argue my point or reasons for not vaccinating and frankly I don't give the tiniest of fucks who thinks I'm justified in my decisions. This conversation is pointless.

I had the flu when I was 12 weeks pregnant in 2009. I got the flu in late March, and I did not get the flu shot that prior fall when it was offered at work because I was out of town. I had no idea I would be pregnant later and wish I had gotten the shot. It was a miserable experience that I will never forget. I say get the flu shot.

  • My husband was not too happy about me getting a flu shot. But I have asthma, I have also been hospitalized because I had a bad asthma attack and caught the flu at the same time.

If I didn't have asthma I would probably not get a flu shot. But the benefits of the shot for me, out weight the risk of not having it.

Well you refuse to argue your point, because you have no valid argument. But I don't want your tiny fucks anyway. And it's not entirely pointless. If there was anyone on the fence, I'd hope they would read the scientific and accurate medical information provided here and protect themselves and their child.

Sweetie I have plenty of valid arguments if I didn't I would be vaccinating myself and my family. I choose to share those arguments and information with people who actually want to know and don't just want to start a debate.

So far none of your arguments have been valid. If they were, you could cite legit sources of the information.

I don't recall giving any arguments, I simply stated I won't be getting the flu shot. Again there is no point in discussing this with close minded people who just say science science and will refute any and everything that proves my point. Like I said your opinions on my choices mean less than nothing to me.
  • I got mine in September before I was pregnant.  If I hadn't I'd definitely get one now.

  • No shots period for this household.
  • My daughter was hospitalized for over a week for a vaccine reaction. Doctor recommend us no to vaccinate further because they give her seizures and caused her to stop breathing and my younger two were advised against them as well bc of egg allergies. So stick that in your self righteous juice box and suck it. (: k thanks

Ugh so sorry this happened. People don't get the severity of vaccine injury till it happens to them or someone they love. Shots are like any medication they aren't for everyone.. Period end of story.

You're a peach. I'm sorry your children had adverse effects from vaccines and now they are vulnerable to every disease out there. That is not something you should be boasting about IMO. You have a very unfortunate situation on your hands, my dear.

These are valid reasons and no one here would recommend vaccines if pre-existing conditions make them dangerous. However, in discussions like this it's best to specify why you don't give particular vaccines to your children instead of just saying "nope no vaccines here, ever" which is sort of what you first said.
There are always good reasons to not vaccinate (like allergies) but we are trying to educate on why you should if you can.

Ps: I don't like juice boxes.

Doesn't sound like her daughter had a pre existing condition before having her seizures and reaction. The first vaccine they give is when you are hours old so how the hell would you know what allergies or "pre existing conditions" you had?
  • I didn't think I had to explain myself. It asked if we were I said no. That was the question so I kept my answer simple as to avoid any debate. Clearly the wrong choice! lol but I'll keep this in mind next time (:

That was snarky sarcasm^ by the way lol not being rude I am just always sarcastic. I think it's the red hair....
