my sick 10 month old will NOT let me check her (rectal) temp. I went out and bought a fancy tempanic thermometer and it is reading 101-102. I have read tempanic readings can be slightly inaccurate. How far off are we talking?

Yeah, I never bothered with rectal temps either. I have always done under the arm, now I have one of those behind the ear. As long as you aren't getting a super high reading and the motrin/Tylenol brings it down, don't worry too much.
