Troubles with PCOS

Hi all! I wanted to share my current personal issues as a 32 year old woman diagnosed with PCOS, and see if any of you had any feedback.  After getting off the pill (which I was on for a very long time), I was diagnosed with PCOS, which my doctors are sure I had all along, but the pill had relieved any of the symptoms.  I have been married for 2 years, and my husband and I decided to start "seeing what happens."  This unfortunately isn't always as easy for those with PCOS, since being 100% carefree is taken off the table.  I'm tracking (or trying to) my ovulation, symptoms, periods, intercourse, etc. in order to give my doctor all of my body's information, in case we need to start seeking extra help. Now that you know a little about my current situation, here are some issues/questions I have for others going through similar situations:

1) For two months I've experienced a lot of pain in my right hip.  I read online that sometimes this can be a symptom of PCOS, and pressure caused by an enlarged ovary/cyst. Anyone else experience this? I have called my doctor to see if I should come in, and am waiting  for her call back.

2) I have been testing my ovulation with Wondfo ovulation testing strips, however so far It always reads negative.  I did just have a period, so I'm assuming I had to have ovulated.  Have any of you with PCOS used ovulation tests and do they work for you? I use 2 apps on my phone, plus good old fashioned counting to predict up to 2 weeks of days to test...all negative so far for 2 months.

I can't wait to hear from you ladies!

Re: Troubles with PCOS

  • Thanks! I'll try posting on the TTC board as well.  I've had my initial doctor appointments and know when is a good idea to go further with testing/getting treatment, however I have been getting a period every month (though usually 1-2 days only), with negative OPKs.  I'll check out the other board too, I appreciate your help!
  • kelizafk I have pcos and for years was having issues with a muscle, that wrapped around my hip that wouldn't heal.(Sports injury.) None of my doctors could figure out how to fix me.  It was only after I was treated for hypothyroidism (many pcos women also have thyroid issues) that my injury healed. I would strongly urge you to make sure you get your thyroid tested.  I'm not a doctor, but thought I'd share my experience with hip pain and pcos issues. Your pain could be something completely different -- but I thought I'd mention my experience.

Also, pcos women can't always rely on ovulation tests -- sometimes they're accurate, sometimes way off.  Temping is better, but still not fool proof.  If you have access to an RE, I would go -- I regret not seeking help from an RE sooner.  I wasted years working with my OB...and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

rainbowbridge14 is right -- head on over to TTTC or TTGP.  There are tons of awesome ladies there that have great advice for PCOS stuff and can guide you.
