When my husband and I found out we were pregnant with Britton, we were shocked! She would be our 7th baby and we had just had a little girl. We had an 11 year old girl and 9, 5 year old boys, and 2 year old twin boys...and a baby girl that was supposed to turn 1 the day before our due date. This would only be my 4th delivery because we adopted two of our children. My first birth with my eldest daughter went very smooth and wasn't too painful (i was spoiled). My second birth with the twins, was extremely long (over 16 hours). My third birth with Berks was the first home birth we had decided to have and was very calm.
With Britton, we hoped to have a home birth as long as everything went as planned. This was by far my worst pregnancy, I had severe morning sickness and was carrying very low in the front my entire pregnancy. Thankfully, I had lots of help with my other children as my in-laws lived very close so they would help me so I could relax. On April 3, two days after my due date, I finally started to feel some contractions. I woke up my husband at 4 am to tell him that this was happening! My contractions were the strongest I had every felt. We called my mother-in-law right away so she could come pick up the kids and then we called the Midwife. My contractions were coming very fast and very hard, I had never felt so much pain before, not even with the twins. I spent most of my time laboring in the bathtub. I'm glad my in-laws picked up the kids because the amount of screaming I was doing would have scared them.
My contractions were so strong and so close together that I wasn't sure if the midwife would make it before the baby was born. Thankfully, at 5:36 the midwife walked in the door. At about 6:00 I felt the urge to push. I pushed for a while in the tub but became very uncomfortable so at the last minute my husband and midwife moved me to the bed. Finally, after the most painful labor, Britton head was out at 6:24 and my husband was able to catch her at 6:26.
My family is currently expected baby #8 and that baby will be born in February when Britton is 10 months old. We hope to have another home birth.
