Black Friday

Has this been discussed yet?  Who is shopping?  Where are you going?  Are you shopping Thursday or Friday?

I actually love black Friday shopping!  We aren't going out Thursday night likely (if something seems worth it, one of us will run out without the kids), but we are taking the kids to daycare on Friday and going shopping during the day. I usually knock out most of my list on BF.

I haven't searched through the ads yet, but there is an outlet mall near us that we'll likely go to.  Old Navy usually does some good deals at their outlet on BF and my kiddos need some clothes.  I know Target has 10% off gift cards, so we'll stop there and probably hit up Kohl's as well.  The rest will be decided once I do some research.

  • I'm considering target because MIL wants an iPad, but I'd have to take the baby, so I'm not sure.

  • I'm not going out Thursday ever again. It was a nightmare last year. I probably will go out Friday, but more just to have something to do with the kids all day than anything else. I have to get more ideas on what to get DH, so we will look around at the mall.
  • We went to our mall this weekend and I was sad walking around remembering how much fun I had last year doing the Thursday night shopping. I won't do Target or a store like that but Loft was 50% everything as well as some other stores that I frequent. They were not busy, like one or two people in line at each store I shopped at. Oh, and I went to Office Max (maybe Office Depot or Staples?) to get the gift card deals. They were doing $200 Visa Gift Cards for $25 off or something like that. It was free money and I wasn't going to pass that up.

I will be in Chicago so I doubt I will go out. I do plan to hit up JCrew and Gap for their online deals.

No way in hell, haha.  I hate crowds, and I'd rather have a low-key day starting decorating and Christmas baking and other homey stuff.  I have gone Friday afternoon, when the crowds have died down and it's more like a regular holiday season day at the mall.  If we happen to be travelling home and passing the major shopping centers on the way, we might stop in the afternoon on Black Friday.  But I hope to be home by then :)
I've actually found now that so many places open on Thursday - there aren't any crazy crowds on Friday anymore.  We didn't wait in line at Target or Kohl's last year.  The only store I really waited a long time for was the Uggs outlet.  It wasn't even worth it either.

  • I saw some $5 movies that will be at Target that I might be interested in, but I don't know that I'll actually go through with heading to the store.

I will probably do some online shopping though.

  • I am doing my mom's Christmas shopping for her, because we will be on our way home from my Aunt's house when stores start opening.  So, my sister and I are going to shop.

We are for sure going to Walmart and Target.  We *might go to Old Navy, but it is too hard for me not to spend money so we probably won't and will just order online if we need something.

I love shopping on Black Friday/ Grey Thursday/ whatever you want to call it.  I have met some really fun people along the way and my sister and I enjoy it.

  • Nope. I hate fighting crowds and after working retail I never will. Online shop, totally different but I won't be getting up at 2am to shop.

I don't think anyone does that anymore since the sales start at 6pm.

We have plenty of places that still open on BF around here. So people do stand in that early. It's nuts but I must say I'd rather see that then them being open on Thanksgiving.

  • We go out to that outlet mall on Thursday night.  ON has everything 50% off, Columbia has I believe 40% off, and then I have coupons to Carters & Lane Bryant.

Then on Friday morning we get up and run to the mall and go to JC Penney, Kohl's & Target. :-)

Okay, so I have my birthday coupon for LB and I was wondering if I could use it in addition to their Black Friday sale!  If I can that would be AWESOME, if I can't then that is a bummer.

Yeah, I'm leaning much more toward online shopping than actually going into the crowds too.

  • Nope. I'll look online for a few things. But there is nothing I need so badly that will make it worth it. I'll look online for stuff.  I'd also have to take G and that sounds like torture.

I am not brave enough to do BF shopping with a toddler.  The only time we've taken a kid is when Aedan was 2 months old.  We just got up when he woke up in the middle of the night and then he slept in his car seat while we were shopping.

DH loves BF as well, so in past years his parents have taken the kids for the night.

Yes.  Also, I got a $15 off a $50 purchase at Old Navy that I can use on BF, and a $10 off any purchase over $10 at Kohl's (both for my birthday) that are good through the end of the month.  Combine offers away!! :-)

It seems like more and more places are advertising BF online deals so I don't know what CM is going to look like.

  • I'm hoping yes to carrots does their $2 cyber monday sale again.  because that was awesome.

Other than that, so many retailers are already doing live BF deals online starting today, so I don't know how much will be a big deal come next Monday.

Lane Bryant has nice boots.  I got a pair last year and they still look really nice.  I think I am going to have to give it up and get "real" boots this year, like with gripping soles and not smooth soles.  I don't need a repeat of last year's fall in the snow.

Me neither. I've worked them though during my college retail days, and the thought of going out so early (or on Thursday) makes me have the retail twitch. I'll shop online in my pjs and maaaayyybe go somewhere on Sat or Sun.

I guess I'm going Thursday night to Wal-Mart. We planned on getting this specific Corvette for DD. Then @hmp1‌ talked me into getting a 2 seater. So we decided on a dune racer. Then found out DD would be too short. So we forgot about the car idea all together and decided on a teepee. Then out of no where DD is all "santa santa santa" "Santa lap" "I want BIG car". The orginal Corvette we were going to get is half price on BF. I'm going for it. The Wal-Mart closest to my mom is a bit more rural than one completely in the city so I'm hoping it isn't as bad. I planned on going alone and having DH stay with the kids at my mom's house. Then I realized I have to get then car from the toy aisle to the register. I'm going to need his help. Everyone is skipping out after lunch so my poor mom will be left alone with the kids.
I bought a Power Wheels online from Walmart last BF on sale plus ebates, but I think in-store you just take the piece of paper to the register. I bet you can go back and pick it up the next day.

oddly after working retail during high school and my freshman year of college my mom and I started making BF shopping our yearly tradition.  We weren't 2am shoppers but we would get up at 6am/7am and hit the mall.

We more or less went to get some good buys and to laugh at all the silly / crazy shoppers.  It was a mother / daughter bonding time.  Now 10+ years later (ooh i am getting old) we still go and my brother has joined in the fun. again odd a man who worked at best buy for several Christmas' to earn extra cash for school still wants to get up.  Yes we might be nuts!

My husband however is the one who does all of his shopping online so he stays home with our son.  I will probably do my fair share of on-line shopping too when cyber Monday rolls around.  Amazon usually has a lot deal.

As for BF I think our targets other than the mall, which I have found to be rather dead the past few years since it's been opening early (we go at 7/8am Friday) are target and toy r us and maybe carters.

Last year my brother and I left the mall after only buying our morning coffee, most of our money was spent at toys r us.

Have you heard of Melaleuca before? I've heard their Renew lotion is a god send for anyone with eczema. It might be worth a shot.

  • @watercolor5 - yes, 10% off all Target gift cards.  Even as a redcard holder, 10% is better than the 5% I normally get off.  I'm curious how many they will have in stock though, and I don't know if it's available online.

@pokedot - I haven't heard of that brand before - I will have to check it out.  I'm desperate for anything for our little man.  Do you know where it's available?
