Anyone experienced with PUPPP?

I was just told by Express Care that I apparently suffer from PUPPP. They gave me no medicine and told me to talk to my dermatologist or OBGYN tomorrow. (Thanks a lot! SUPER helpful!) I've done some google research on this. I'm just curious if any of you have had this with prior pregnancies and what your tried and true remedies were. TIA for any suggestions!!!

Re: Anyone experienced with PUPPP?

  • Darn!!! I was hoping for some good relief!! Thanks for the product advice. Aveeno oatmeal baths are always good.
Uh, "fun fact" not so much! :-) we already know we are having a girl (lots of sono's already) but I've been terrified that there may still be a second hiding in there somewhere! Irrational fear just because a bit more rational. :-/

  • I have prurigo which is similar. It started around 16 or 17 weeks and I am about 21 weeks now. My derm gave me some low dose steroid cream and told me to call my Obgyn to see what type of antihistamine I could take (she said Zyrtec). I've only had one reoccurrence of a rash since then and it definitely wasn't as bad as when I was first diagnosed. Good luck! It is definitely no fun but go see a derm and hopefully they can help you!
  • Yep, nothing they can really do for it. Last time I went to the Dr she said I might have a slight case of it (the bumps were pretty much gone) and to be thankful. My rash comes and goes though, so who knows. I just know that it is really annoying!
  • I had it in my first pregnancy from my neck to my toes. The only things that helped were acupuncture and actually having the baby. It cleared up very quickly after birth. A sorbolene type cream with a touch of menthol can also help cool it down.
  • I got it with my first pregnancy. didn't get it until about 40 weeks. Delivered at 40+5 naturally. But the rash hung around until about six weeks postpartum, so what they say about delivering makes the rash go away is utter BS.
I hope I don't get it this time. It certainly is terrible and nothing anyone needs to be dealing with with a newborn.
Pregnancy safe antihistamines, pine tar soap, calamine lotion.
    Good luck.
  • Also I had a larger than average boy. First child. Those things seem to be connected to puppps though there isn't a lot of research about it, I guess because it isn't going to kill you.
  • Some people swear by dandelion leaf tea, but with any herbs please check with your doctor before using. I drink it for bloating, but it's supposed to help liver function which is related to PUPPP. Again, run it by your doctor before taking my weird internet advice. :)
  • No experience with this but I would research essential oils for it. Maybe there aren't any but worth a shot. Just make sure I you do find some that you double check they are safe for use during pregnant.
  • No previous experience, FTM. But I'm fairly certain that I now have this too. I plan on calling my doctor today. I'll let you know what they recommend.

  • @rmaurer08‌ I called my doctor today and they had me come in for an appointment. I do have PUPPPS. They prescribed a steroid cream and said to take benadryl when it's really bothering me. But, only thing that'll make it go away is actually having the baby. Hope that little bit of info helps. I hope you get some answers from your OB!

  • I had it with my first, luckily it hasn't come back.

Cold is the only thing that helped. Washcloths with cold water, ice packs, stuff like that. I found these round freezer pop things that I would freeze and roll up and down my stomach.

I would pack a cooler with stuff and keep it next to the bed at night because the itching woke me up.

    You have all my sorries.
  • I read that taking dandelion root can help. I would check with your doctor first. I got puppp witht this pregnancy at about 18 weeks from my face to my feet. Mine cleared up when I was given steroid shots at 24weeks when I was admitted to the hospital for bleeding, so I'm not much help.
