February 2013 Moms

No more naps?

Just curious when your older kids stopped napping/have any of the Feb13 babies stopped?

Mac is a pretty great napper, today he absolutely refuses to sleep after being up all night. I really hope he keeps up with naps until he starts school. If the average age to stop is 2 I might cry.

  • I have no idea what is average but....my Feb baby and my 2 yr 9 mth old but still nap for 2-2.5 hrs.
I have however had a 2.5 year old that never took naps while I had her so.....I think that with all other things sleep related it varies from child to child.

Also, I have a 6 year old right now and while the littles nap he has to find a quiet activity to do....in his room if I am having a bad day but he does not have to nap.
  • We have gone through a couple nap refusal periods....but on the advice of friends I have pushed through and maintain at least a quiet time most days and am starting to get back the nap pretty regularly.  Don't give up mama!

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • I will never give up on naps! Naps are the greatest thing ever. First tri exhaustion + a toddler who hasn't slept at all is exhausting. We are pushing naps forever. I tried quiet time in the crib but he just flips out, this boy is a stubborn one and if he's awake he needs to see one of us. The second he wakes he screams until we get him :(

  • My dd stopped consistently napping around 2, no naps for good at 2.75. She takes a nap about once every 2 months. Ds still takes 2 naps most days.
  • DS2 is still going strong.  DS1 quit napping at home pretty much the day DS2 was born.  It was pretty FML timing!  X(

  • DD1 won't nap if we miss the window. If we're out doing stuff and get home too late, she won't nap. She might sleep for 5 minutes in the car. If she does end up dropping the nap, then we'll do quiet time and push through it too.

  • For us poor nighttime sleep always equals poor naps and vice versa - it's a vicious cycle when it happens. Just getting one good sleep in always gets us back to normal. I wouldn't think one missed nap means naps are going away - rather I think it'd be like whatever happened when you went from 2 naps to 1 nap. For us this was when she consistently stayed up playing in her crib through the whole second nap for a week or so and yet was cheerful til bedtime. When I see that w one nap I'll be very very afraid...

  • DD1 is still napping consistently at 3.5. Maybe 1 day / week she doesn't nap, but she's still in her room for 1.5 hours for quiet time. The nice thing is that we know if a nap isn't possible due to a family event or something, she'll be ok. DD2 definitely still needs her nap, though, or she has a meltdown around 5pm and there's nothing we can do except put her to bed.
In 3 weeks we'll be going to the States, and I'm hoping and praying it doesn't mess up their sleep too badly when we come back!!

Mine doesn't nap anymore :(  I seriously despise those who have kids napping for hours each day ;).  We decided to cut out naps after we had many many nights where he would wake up and it would take him a few hours to get back to sleep resulting in long work days for Mom and Dad.  As much as I love spending time with my son, pajama parties from 1-3 every morning is not the quality time I like.  We tried just doing shorter naps, earlier naps, etc.  Finally we just cut the naps and nights were fixed.  In reality, his naps were going to crap anyways.  We were lucky if we would get a nap anywhere over an hour and it was starting to be a fight to get him down.  My mom never stopped reminding me I stopped napping at 18 months, so I guess karma came back to bite me in the ass.

I'm sad though,  I miss my naptime.

  • If no nap would fix awful night sleep I would be willing to get rid of nap, unfortunately, no nap means night sleep is even worse.

Sunday was no nap day, yesterday was less than an hour, and today was barely over an hour. Kid needs to realize naps are amazing, mama isn't ready to give up naps yet.
